Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I think Jessica Jones either needed to adopt a Half-Arc Season model and give Jessica more standalone adventures, or it needed to have more season-long antagonists besides just Kilgrave. He's an entertaining villain, but he's too much of a one-trick-pony to support an entire season that's just about taking him down.
I dunno if at this point I'm just deciding all of the series flaws are virtues because I'm blinded by love, or if I'm legit making good arguments.
But again, I do feel like the scattered pacing, mild repetition, and general aimlessess of the series adds an odd veneer of realism and, moreover, makes it feel different from most TV series.
Like, Kilgrave having a grand plan to increase his power would, in my eyes, seriously devalue the whole "banality of evil" thing the show has going on, that Kilgrave's worst sins are really just being petty and selfish.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. At this point I think all of Marvel's shows are solid offerings. What you like better really depends on personal taste. I lean more towards the ABC stuff because I like some fun in my shows. The Netflix shows are more "one time watch" shows - especially Jessica Jones. I can't handle the show that well, it is too disturbing.
The third escape worked fine for me because it was more about Kilgrave and Malcolm than Jessica. Its redundant yes but it pushes Kilgrave into a corner way more than the super special chamber did. There he was able to manipulate Hogarth without even using his powers. Then he comes and tries to manipulate Jessica and she punches him in the face.
If it weren't for random nonsense, that would have been it for him. And he thought he had a bulletproof offer there.
And Malcolm's role in it causes his crisis of faith which almost led him to just walk out of the show altogether.
Yeah, having three Kilgrave captures and escapes may be redundant but they all did different things and they all did what they were aiming for.
The show isn't perfect but its damn good.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm just annoyed they didn't adapt the fake Captain America sex tape from the comics. *sigh* Maybe in season 2...
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Jessica Jones is good, but I'm really uninterested in re-watching it. Not for reasons like "it's too dark" or "it's too uncomfortable" but rather the Arc Fatigue that happens isn't interesting to sit through.

... So am I the only one who's currently on their second viewing of Jessica Jones?
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Unlike Daredevil, you cant really take the more, shall we say noteworthy scenes from Jessica Jones and go, "Hey, remember how awesome that part was? Man, that girl's parents didn't see that shit coming! Badass!" Sure there were moments like Luke Cage's first action scene, but those were relatively less impressive than Daredevil and ultimately got overshadowed by the "Oh god, no!" parts that the series will be remembered for.

Very old image, but eh.
Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.I already stated why, exactly, I don't plan on re-watching it.

I had trouble getting through the comics due to it bordering on Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy. I don't think the show was as bad about it as the comics were (probably why I enjoyed the series more than the comic).
But I did reread "Alias" in preparation for the show and enjoyed it a lot more, so maybe the show won't be as bleak the second time around, and I'll like it even more.
I just finished Jessica Jones. I like it and hope for a second season, but I agree that Arc Fatigue and certain parts make a rewatch unlikely.
Which series comes next?

That would be rad.
