Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

More info on Civil War and Bucky's role
. Oh boy, maybe it's just me but it sounds like we really are going towards Bucky still being used as a HYDRA puppet and possibly taking Sharon's place as you know what.
As for the above spy talk, was that part of the general Heroic Hollywood leaks? I forget but depending on how they worded it the spy may not be for either side but for HYDRA/a third force.

Welp. I just watched episode 13 of Jessica Jones and it sure was a thing that occurred while I watched it occur with my eyes.
It seems we've moved onto Civil War by now though.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I loved Hope's death. A character deliberately fridging themselves to motivate a revenge scenario is fucking brilliant.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. Also the plot with Hope being pregnant with Kilgrave, trying to kill herself via beating to have an abortion, then having a painful poisoning-ish abortion, and Hogarth saving the dead fetus to test if Kilgrave's abilities could be reproduced, on top of what Mad Skillz said, seems a bit too much even for me, and I have a relatively high threshold for bleakness.
I watch man in the high castle, a show about the Nazis winning world war two, and that show doesn't seem as relentlessly bleak as Jessica Jones.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The show doesn't vilify Hope for wanting/taking the abortion, though, which is fantastic. On any other show that plotline would've gone way differently and made me very angry.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I know, on the social issues sides, I have nothing but praise for this show, I just think it's way too bleak, and that the plot wears a tad thin on the last few episodes (seriously how many times Kilgrave is captured only to escape). Next season should be shortened to just 10.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."If there is a show where a woman wants an abortion, and no one judges her for it, and then she has the abortion and stands by that decision, I'd love to see it. Most shows don't even make it to that first comma.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I've seen people note that Jessica's entire struggle kind of amounts to a "Shaggy Dog" Story in a way, but I think that's sort of the point. She's a very broken, selfish person who is not good at decision making, so she ignores what everyone else tells her to do ( killing Kilgrave) until it's the only choice she's left with.
She's sort of unlikeable in that respect, which I think makes her more interesting.

Oddly enough, the first thing that came to mind seeing that is that Stars and Stripes doesn't look like that.

If we could go back to Civil War (the yet-to-be-released movie) for a second, I'd like to point something out. We did not see Sharon Carter anywhere in that trailer. I'm not complaining about that. First off, this was only the first trailer and it's possible as we get more, she'll be in there. And second, I don't think she added much of anything to Winter Soldier, so I don't really care if I see her again or not. I don't have that knee-jerk "but in the comics..." reaction to things, because I never read the comics. And the MCU is a separate continuity anyway. And it just occurred to me that the same people who said Sharon would be there on Team Cap said Wanda would be on Team Stark, and she clearly wasn't, so.
But it sparked an idea in my head (always dangerous
). It was said that someone on Team Stark was actually a spy for Team Cap. A lot of people pointed the finger at Black Widow, but I find that laughable. Everyone now knows she's a spy/assassin. Including Stark. Stark, who can't go more than five minutes without reminding everyone he's smarter than they are. Stark, who's already been infiltrated by the Black Widow once before. The very idea that he would forget all about that and let her do it again is ridiculous. Not to mention that fact that this seems to be a conflict centered on Bucky, and Natasha is a) a pragmatist, and b) has been aware from day one that Steve was compromised when it came to anything relating to Bucky.
But here's what I thought of (finally,
): What if Sharon is the spy? Whatever these "Accords" actually are, they're clearly a government thing. Stark and co. would probably be dealing with a government liaison of some kind. The events of Winter Soldier showed she was clearly a loyal SHIELD agent, and at the end she was qualifying for work at the CIA. She has at least passing familiarity with Steve Rogers (which might have been seen as an advantage before he went rouge), and maybe even Maria Hill, who apparently works at Stark Industries. Seems like a good candidate. So maybe that's what she's doing. And then shit goes down. When she smells a rat (remember, she was the first SHIELD agent to openly question going after Rogers in WS), she decides that rather than running off to join Steve in battle (a good way to get herself killed, considering the combatants), she decides the best way to help him is to stay where she is and quietly funnel him information. That would be especially important if Bucky really has been framed for something; Steve would know finding proof of that would be just as important as keeping Bucky out of reach.
