Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Honestly I never got any serious sense of friendship between them in the two Avengers movies, especially not that shippy line at the end of AOU. Felt more like fans of the pairing in the comics are projecting their relationship there onto their movie incarnations.
Speaking of that line in the trailer, I don't think that above lack of closeness between the two is unreconciliable with it. The way I saw it, despite their antagonism, Tony probably has a twisted sort of love/attachment towards Cap because of his own personal history. He's bad at expressing it, it's a recurring flaw of his, but he does still care. But it's an unequal relationship where he values his bond with Cap more than the other way around. So combined with his big ego it feels like a personal slap in the face to know he's not Cap's Special Person the way Cap is to him. It hurts Cap too because he's the kind of guy who cares about all his comrades-in-arms, even the ones he doesn't always agree with, but way less so than giving up on Bucky.

I saw Cap and Iron Man as being sorta Vitriolic Best Buds. They have insurmountable differences and headbutt often, but still rely on each other and are good friends underneath.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Does it bother anyone else that Iron Man's repulsars have steadily become less and less 'beams of blue energy' and more 'Iron Man's palm sparks and whatever he's pointing it at sparks also'?

Hey, about the possible Moon Knight series on Netflix, if they're gonna have a scene with this line:
I have a feeling that they might have to replace the very last word since they sort of really use that very word on Jessica Jones. Probably with something like "So be happy."

Also he did all that stuff generally from a distance, this fight is up close and personal.
Also being able to carry a nuke isn't impressive, it's just lifting a heavy thing, likewise your underestimating Cap and Bucky, they're two of the strongest (if not the strongest) humans on the planet. Hulk and Thor are stronger then them, but who else is?

Iron Monger, Dynalash, and Killian (at least in terms of striking power). Then there's the fact that Tony's older models tanked things like high velocity tank shells, Thor's headbutt, and a massive spinning Helicarrier propeller. So yeah, seeing the latest, state-of-the-art model of Tony's armor get smacked around this easily by two people who only meet the bare minimum requirements of meta-humanity has me scratching my head somewhat. Though the armor doesn't look like it's taking much visible damage.

If Spider Man is still appearing in this, he's stronger.
And right now both Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are likely stronger as well.
One Strip! One Strip! Is anyone bothered by the fact that they basically seem to have shot the Pro-reg side's argument in the foot by having Ross (the guy who helped create the Abomination) on the team? Not to mention how the last Captain America movie revealed that Hydra had infiltrated the government. Why have this discussion in your fil if you're just going to demonise one side in favor of the other.

Maybe Ross's is now on a tighter government leash after the Harlem incident. More restrictions on what he's allowed to do. Maybe that's why Tony is getting his ass kicked by Steve/Bucky.
Adam Ross pulled a Metroid Other M on him and made him dial back his armor's power/capabilities.

No, because that isn't Demonization.
Tony vs Steve is essentially Security vs Freedom, representing the delicate balancing act between the two for society in general. Tony's obsession with keeping the world safe resulted in Ultron. Maybe we'll see a disaster of Steve's own making due to his "no/less rules" mentality.
EDIT: Actually Tony represents both sides. He used the kind of freedom only a billionare can enjoy to try and keep the world safe, only for it to backfire, and now he's going in the opposite direction.

I think it's more To Be Lawful or Good in this case. Steve wants to be Good - to get to the bottom of the mystery and protect his friends no matter what the law says, especially if he believes a fair trial won't happen. Tony wants to be Lawful - advocating oversight to make amends for past mistakes and wanting to bring in a dangerous fugitive first before worrying about whether he might be framed.
Neither of them are really in the wrong, but both of them are stubborn enough that this ends up coming to blows.
