Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Ms. Marvel, Squirrel-Girl, Spider-Woman, She-Hulk, and Young Avengers would be cool to see adapted.

[up] I'll echo all of those. Plus the Runaways (who could be fit in nicely given some new Hydra details in Agents of Shield).

Also, while not asked, in terms of villains, I'd like to see Taskmaster, Janice Lincoln!Beetle, and Machinesmith.

I keep wondering where the Taskmaster is. I need the Taskmaster. Too interesting and cool to not be in these movies.

In terms of other villains I wish for... *shrug*, Surprise me, Marvel. Just make sure to not immediately kill Taskmaster, he has to reoccur.

[up]My guess is that either Ao S or a Cap film will feature him at some point.

Know who I want to see in the MCU? Devil Dinosaur. And MODOK. Can't forget MODOK.

[up]I already have a great idea on his MCU origin. It involves AIM stealing the cradle and using it improperly.

I feel like it's possible that Marvel may not have access to Taskmaster. He's most notable as a Deadpool villain, so his rights might be wrapped up there.

[up]I'm not sure about that. He has a rather close history with SHIELD and antagonizes all sorts of street level heroes across the board (being a mercenary and all). Deadpool is just the guy famous for f**king with his photographic reflexes.

Unlikely, he was created outside of Deadpool and has been primarily a Marvel-wide villain.

"Most famous for" is all it takes sometimes.

It's the reason we're even allowed to have the Maximoffs in the MCU. Because they are equally notable for both the X-Men and Avengers franchises.

I would friggin' love to see Spider-Woman adapted. She is one of my favourite female superheroes.

Moon Knight, from what I heard about him, could be fun to adapted. And Cloak and Dagger would indeed work on Netflix.

"Blade, Ghostrider aso are all heroes which I consider an odd fit for the MCU. I would prefer them in their own, separate universe."

I respectfully disagree. They might not seem like they fit now, but once Dr Strange joins, I feel they will feel less odd if added. Beside, I love comic books specifically for their tendency to integrated pretty much anything they want in their Universe. Of course, I see your point, but personally that weird contrast is what makes them fun to me.

Definitely want to see Ms. Marvel and Miles Morales. Nova too. I also want to see Enchantress used at some point. And Shang-Chi.

Also, we never got Scarlet Witch in the X-Men movies, right? Because it just hit me that Marvel killing off Quicksilver in Age of Ultron but keeping Scarlet Witch alive might (emphasis on might) be Marvel's way of saying to Fox, "Oh, so you either thought you were clever to use Pietro before we could or thought Wanda was useless, eh? Well, up yours, because we're killing off our Pietro and using the other Maximoff twin that you probably regard as "useless". So suck on that, Fox!"

That doesn't really stick it to them. If anything it just makes their job easier since now they don't have to worry about two completely different superheroes named Quicksilver confusing people.

I don't remember if Whedon said that it was his idea to kill Quicksilver or not but killing characters is kinda his thing.

[nja][up][up][up]But think about Taskmaster and his fame for having assimilated the styles and skills of all sorts of heroes, most of which are or are going to be adapted for the MCU (Spidey, Cap, Black Knight, Hawkeye, etc.).

Oh, remembered, would also like Amadeus Cho and Hercules.

Had this idea with Taskmaster to have him enthuse about being Captain America's biggest fan (while fighting him, naturally), in a weird parallel to Coulson/Scott.

[up]Oh yeah I'm definitely waiting on Hercules and Amadeus too.

Taskmaster being a Cap fanboy could be funny. "Sir, it is an honor to kick your ass!"

I don't think Taskmaster is "most notable" as a Deadpool villain. I was a fan of the character and just recently I learned that fact. Taskmaster have made tons of appearances elsewhere, both recently and in the past. As far I can tell, he is just "most notable" as a Deadpool villain if you are a Deadpool fan, but if you are not and follow Avengers comics, then Taskmaster will be "most notable" as a all purpose Avengers villain.

Worth noting with Taskmaster, in Nick Spencer's Ant-Man run, Scott thinks of him as his arch nemesis (Taskmaster doesn't reciprocate).

@Droy, Disney doesn't have the rights to Pokemon and if they did then I would be scared.

I can't see Cloak and Dagger on Netflix because those are effect-heavy characters. I really want to see them on the big screen.
