Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

@higherbrainpattern

I'm fine. Finey fine, fine! All sorts of fine! If fine was drink mix, I'd be the goddamn Kool-Aid Man of fine! Just sharing my displeasure with ABC's ad campaign is all.

[up]Not a big deal? This miserable joke of an ad could cost Agent Carter a third season. Do you WANT to see one of the few examples of good television left on this planet get Sean Bean-ed by the network, all because ABC decided to drench it in a hot, sticky layer of bubble gum whimsy while promoting it to the viewing public!?

YOU'RE SERIOUSLY OVERREACTING TO THIS AND IT'S GETTING ANNOYING.

A 30 second commercial for Agent Carter will in no way affect whether or not it gets are a third season. Like, are you joking???

So...uhm. Anything I (only a MCU movie watcher) should give a damn?

i can't even tell if you're joking or not anymore. Trust me. Nobody else is getting as angry about this so I doubt it's going to hurt the viewership.

[up][up][up]Very well. I'll leave it that. Anyways, wow a Watchmen cartoon? I would've loved to have been a fly on the wall when that was pitched.

And yes, I was kayfabing (apparently to a fault).

@dRoy: You're really depriving yourself of some quality MCU content by only watching the movies.

@high - ....Okay, here's the thing.

Don't ever, ever, tell me that I'm missing out on something. That's among my biggest Berserk Button. Just don't.

Random rambling.

Rewatched Iron Man (well, bits of it) after watching Age of Ultron.

Man, the Iron Monger looks so, so, so puny now. [lol]

[up][up][up]Well they made an honest-to-goodness cartoon out of Robocop. So consider me gullible.

[up] Too many friends who wouldn't shut up about Breaking Bad/Walking Dead/Hannibal/etc?

It wasn't pitched, it's a joke trailer parodying the tendency of Saturday Morning Cartoons to water down their subject material.

[up][up] [up]I mean I don't wanna press the issue here but I am highly confused as to how on Earth saying you're missing out on stuff can make you enraged.

[up][up] Yeah the world is strange enough for a Watchmen cartoon sound plausible. What a time to be alive.

[up] Again, don't. That issue is irrelevant to this thread, and you don't need to know. End of story.

I wonder if Hulkbuster can fold the Iron Monger in half without a sweat. [lol]

I'm not really sure why you'd be asking about it then if you're going to freak out when people tell you it's good. You're being really aggressive right now.

First of all, I did NOT ask for that. I asked if the current topic was anything significantly relevant to the movies. Second of all, that's irrelevant to the topic so drop it.

[up][up]Only if they phrase it in the way he described.

[up][up][up]Stane couldn't even solve the icing problem. And the ugly old thing couldn't survive a drop from the sky. You bet Mark 14 would mangle it as if it were a wire coat hanger.

Agent Carter is significantly related to the movies. It features the origin of the Red Room program that Black Widow comes from, shows Peggy Carter's adventures after WWII with the SSR before Howard and Peggy establish SHIELD, etc....

[up][up][up][up] Daredevil, Agent Carter, and Agents of SHIELD are very good, so you can stop being so condescending, thanks.

[up] I. Wasn't. Being condescending. I don't disagree with the notion that they are good. I'm not going to watch them, but I heard good things about it. I only took an issue at you telling me that I'm missing out for not watching them.

Man, among Phase 2 movies, Thor 2 was really, really underwhelming for me.

In all the other ones, there was at least one scene that I found really memorable, for one reason or another, but I pretty can't remember anything except the fact that the main villain (whose name I can't even remember and will have to look up wiki) was very, very dull.

My favorite moment from Ant-Man was the tank chain key. I don't even know if that's brilliant or stupid, but that sure as hell left me an impression, all right. XD

Well, I guess it's just my preference.

Best moment in the movie. Hands down.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
