Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I feel like if they didn't want to give Jameson a huge supporting role they could show one part where Peter walks in trying to get some money from freelance photography, where Simmons turns around in his chair and says "What the hell are those for? You know how long it's been since somebody tried to sell me pictures? They're obviously shopped anyway. How else could you get photos that high up in such detail?" It'd be a fun cameo and a stab at the old series.

My world is upside-down. What is there to believe in anymo- OF COURSE I KNOW THAT!! I was just being cute and playing along! That's all.
Checking him out on Youtube right now. He's talking about the movie, SPECTRE. He says he just about loves it because it raises real world awareness of a nebulous organization trying to covertly take over the world. Also, something about dangerous parasites in the body. Kind of surreal.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! Not the showrunners, but Orphan Black features a cast composed of almost entirely of female characters. There are dudes, but they're outnumbered by the women and the main focus of the plot is on the women.
That doesn't make them not their own characters. In fact, that's kind of the entire point.
(Also, it makes Tatiana Maslany an acting god, because she is pulling all of the weight on that show.)
In other news, Peyton Reed is saying that with Ant-Man and The Wasp (which he is still in negotiations to direct, but is probably going to get the job), he plans to "be loud" in regard to making sure Hope gets equal face time in promotions and merchandise.
Woo!
Yeah, the goal of diversity is twofold—more great female and minority characters for female and minority viewers to connect to, and more jobs for women and minorities in the entertainment industry.
Orphan Black, by necessity, can't really fulfill that second one on screen. Do we know how well it does behind the scenes?

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I mean it also has plenty of important female or minority characters not played by Tatiana Maslany. Looking at what wikipedia calls the main cast we have.
- Tatiana Maslany
- Dylan Brucefor seasons 1-3
- Jordan Gavaris
- Kevin Hanchard
- Michael Mando for seasons 1 and 2
- Maria Doyle Kennedy
- Évelyne Brochu for seaons 1-3
- Ari Millen
- Kristian Bruun
So it goes, women (multiple roles), white man, actor playing minority (LGBT) character, ethnic minority man, white man, women, women actor playing minority (LGBT) character, white man (multiple roles), white man. The only remaining main characters that are strait white men are either the male clones, or the husband of one of the female clones. In fact have all the strait white male main characters not been monitors? And thus only important because of their relationship to a female character?
And that's not getting into other key characters like Virginia Coady or Kendall Malone.

I haven't watched a single trailer for that reason. It's just the best thing to do when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
