Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Mike Nelson and Joel Hodgson were the hosts of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Joel hosted first, left, Mike replaced him, people still argue over it.
Basically the entire internet is a mess of insanity that can not settle for anyone being "wrong" in their opinion. Someone "has" to be "right", and it drowns everything in bullshit.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Joel Hodgson was the creator of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and its host for the first six and a half seasons.
Mike Nelson was the show's head writer from season two on and its host for the latter half of the series.
Debate over which was better on camera was THE flame war in the 1990s.
Surprisingly the fandom's really dang chill these days.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.![]()
There's still warnings on one of the tropes pages for Mike's first MST 3 K episode instructing people to not add any examples about the "Mike vs. Joel" rivalry. So while they are undoubtedly chill, there's still those nuts out there.
Yes, more or less. It's taking the MST 3 K format and riffing on fanfiction.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Yeah, sorry about that. I just felt like letting out some steam because of some dumb Cumberbashing I saw over the new set photos, followed by a series of particularly vehement Joss Whedon hate posts over AOU, and as someone who doesn't particularly care about him or the way he tackles a lot of stuff, I still thought it was excessive and borderline violent Ron the Death Eater-ing.
Back to topic, those Doctor Strange set photos. If they're indicative of any final designs, it looks like they're changing up Mordo's design quite a lot from the comics, but are keeping some of the green at least.

Jessica Jones further expands the conflict between society and Avegeners (civil war)by having a right wing radio host dog on the lives they did not save and their negative impact within Hell's Kitchen. Jessica declares her stance. Then there are scenes of kids dressed as Captain America, parading around. Aliens and Hulk gets mentioned. Yeah that's about it. It's all subtle like AOS and Ant Man handled the over arching lore. Now these are real events since people react in various ways to them. Directors have learned to interwine A, B, and C so that the average person can provide a respond. It's not limited to verbal responses either. Even within conversations they occur casually, being topical. Jessica Jones is the latest trend. Soon Dr. Strange will follow and so on.
But all of this really relates back to our titular heroine. The world around her won't shut up about what she's trying to stay away from. It only accumulates more baggage, which doesn't help an empath. External content to boost Jessica's chacaterzation. She claims being a superhero sucks and probably is right, but by helping underdogs, like the heroine addict Malcom, get back on their feet proves you don't need to stop an alien invasion to be super.
Avenger commit an action. New Yorkers react towards that action. Jessica reacts towards their reactions based on her persoanility.

It's called research.
http://www.flickeringmyth.com/2015/11/7-things-we-learned-from-the-first-half-of-jessica-jones.html
Everyday I google news for live action superhero anything. For example when I first wake up I google Agents of shield. This is what I found yesterday when I typed in jessica jones. Then I asserted that information into the chacater's shoes and reflected what it means for the MCU.
Summary: the world building is becoming more organic and shows no signs of taking a step back. Jessica reflects on her fellow New Yorkers while there is an ever consistent reminder of superheroes are impractical in the form of kids playing around as Cap she can't run away from. The woman behaves pessimistic towards such a job despite her actions sometimes being just as heroic. She undermines her potential to be something greater, which corresponds with the Alias version

That line in the trailer brings up a good point about how terrifyingly difficult it would be to prove the existence of a person who could control minds, especially when people aren't already inclined to believe such things. The comics have so many mind controllers running that they once formed a gang (that didn't include Purple Man, funnily enough). The movies... not so much.
Kilgrave is the first example of just a regular person being able to do that. Loki had advanced alien weaponry and he still had to touch people with it - plus the symptoms in his case were somewhat obvious.

How Kilgqlrave's powers work will be intersting because only Trish seems to notice it's partly voice of reason. The first trailer had a boy being tested on. I assume said scene alluded to his childhood.
Jessica can binge drink but doesn't appear reliant on achol nor does it effect her body horribly. She copes through achol but the cost isn't high. Just quick, cheap pleasure to feel something, which is the same as a one night stand for the orgasm

Cant wait to see what SHIELD will scoff at next.....
SHIELD Agent (to underling): "Okay. I know martial arts are good for health and circulation and all. But channeling some kind of life energy through your body to kill someone with your pinky is just some new age bullshit shilled out by so-called gurus in infomercials. Anyways, how's the Rand case coming? Any signs he's an Inhuman?"

I mean, I do research too and everything I've read hasn't been much, because they've only been slowly doling out information. And Trish (and Jeri Hogarth) have pretty much gotten the least amount of information. All we know so far is that she is a radio host and she is Jessica's friend. That's all.

Relevant point: I still don't get how some people could claim that Benedict Cumberbatch being in Doctor Strange would make the movie bad somehow.
Marginally less relevant point: Good grief, pay as much as possible to get J.K. Simmons back for the next Spider Man. You could make it a big reveal at the end of the first trailer and I bet people would go nuts for that.
Extremely irrelevant point: I like cake.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectWhere did I say anything about Trish in that post? You're pulling stuff that wasn't there. If you want to argue against it then at least stick to its content rather than going off what higherbrainpattern said about Trish. Note: higherbrainpattern made a connection between Trish and my post despite me giving no details about her within said post.

In this post
, you talk about a right wing radio host. Trish is a radio host, therefore I assumed you were talking about her. However, if you weren't, then by all means, where are you getting your information? Because I haven't seen any articles reveal that information.

Same reason people still argue over Mike vs. Joel...it's the internet.
