Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Peter is more or less a Paparazzi. And those certainly still exist. And they still sell exclusive photos to certain newspaper. The only question is which always didn't make much sense, why should Peter sell to the one paper which is always ruining his reputation.
And newspapers still have their own photographers they send to certain events. They are not exactly on the payroll, they are paid for every event they go to.

Forgot about that. That's clever.
Was also thinking of a comparison with Clark Kent. Not sure how long this has been the case, but he's often shown to be a journalist of some note and I think at times a reporter on tv (which does rather stretch the believability of Clark Kenting).
It's a lot more plausible that Clark could have a career from what he does than Peter- although I guess it makes some sense due to the fact that Peter is the ultimate loser and suffers from Samaritan Syndrome and Clark has the kind of powers (super-everything) that allow him to maintain a career and fight crime/save the world.

I know a lot of journalistic photographers, but yes they tend to be freelancers and, a running trend I've observed, is for them to do something else at the journal other than just pictures. Writing a column, for example.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."
That's something I've always wondered - surely Peter's done some shots that would have been impossible for him to make without him being...well, Spider-Man.
I'm happy for stories where Peter, as spider-man, breaks into film sets and the Avenger tower just to get photos of Tony Stark with food in his moustache.
Tony is endlessly frustrated by this but at a loss, and not all that keen on having another conversation with Jolly Jay Johanna Jameson Junior; who Tony finds to be endlessly annoying.
Oh god I want JJJ Jr and Tony in the same scene so bad.

Pretty much. And Jameson would probably be too drunk on the revenue Peter's "miracle shots" would be raking in to care to question how he pulled it off. Though I cant help but wonder if any of the rest of the Bugle (particularly jealous coworkers) got suspicious.

I'm still not averse to the idea of Hugh Laurie in the role. Yeah, he might not bring quite the same energy to the role as Simmons did, but I think he could do it justice in his own way.

I mean, it'd be very difficult to top Simmons, and I'd love to see more of him, but I am interested in seeing what other actors could do with the role.
Oh God! Natural light! The downside is they wouldn't be able to do this.
◊ At least, not as easily.
Seriously though, I want Keith David in the MCU so bad. Maybe as Moses Magnum, reimagined as a smooth Smart Guy weapons dealer?

Hey, it was in the contract. I'm not complaining. There are other places for Keith David.

I believe in reality (I think this was the case with the Chicago Tribune at least) a lot of newspapers have fired their photographer staff members and instead use the Associate Press- so it's like Peter wouldn't be out of a job (since he never worked directly for the Bugle), but his job would no longer exist.
I suppose theoretically that his ability to get great photos of Spider-Man could mean that the paper would still pay him, but changes in the newspaper industry means that rather than being a steady (if poorly paying) job, his photography is something that only really works if he's a teenager living with his grandmother and it's a source of extra cash.
