Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

The reason her role in Age of Ultron was scaled back was because Scarlett Johansson was pregnant at the time, and there's only so much you can do with stunt and body doubles. So her screentime is limited and consists of a lot of talky scenes.

Notice that her big action sequence that isn't the opening or climax has her spend the majority of her time on a motorcycle, which is something that an actor wouldn't be allowed to do themselves anyway.

[up]Now that have more sense, also I think is a little more dificult to talk-trick a robot(even one based in Tony stark)

But anyway, who did you think is going against who in Civil war? I would like Black Widow against Black Panther since they both seen to excel in hand to hand combat, Also I admit that Im a little bit pro-cap right now since Ao U and I want him to smack Tony a little bit.

I like Tony, but I've always been pro-Cap, too. smile

[up]Funny thing I wasnt, my opinion about him change for two things: first Winter soldier is so fucking damn awsome and more important, Tony behivor in Ao U when he decide to replicate Ultron experiment with Jarvis just rub me in wrong way, I dotn care if he wins, I just want Cap to smack him with his shiled a couple of times for being such an idiot.

That and I want someone else to punch Wanda for what she did to Hulk but that is another thingevil grin

Black Widow is in a way the most important fighter in The Avengers. She is the one who sais that they need to close the worm hole, she is the one who fights her way up to it, and she is the one who closes it.

And as a general rule, Black Widow is always the one who makes the hard decisions. Like betraying Bruce so that they have Hulk during the Battle of Sokovia.

Often. Not always. I think "I need to fly a nuke directly into the portal and risk it closing before I can get out" was a pretty hard decision.

And then Black Widow had to make the call to close the portal while Stark was still in there.

Which I think is even harder, because you have to live with what you have done instead of dying a heroic dead.

Granted, I don't think she'd lose much sleep over losing Stark. tongue

Except not really? I mean, I guess it's ultimately up to her whether she listens to him or not, but he's still the one who has to go "Close it whether I get out or not."

I won't deny that she's the one who is often forced to make pragmatic decisions, but she's not the only one.

She is also the one who releases the SHIELD files despite revealing her true self being her greatest fear.

[up][up]Actually it was Cap who told Nat to close it. Iron Man had no communication with the group after making the warp.

Well, I hope that they make Dr. Strange British. They need to branch out a little bit with the nationalities.

[up]Sitwell did mention him as one of Project Insight's targets, implying he's an American citizen at the very least.

[up]He didn't imply anything. For one, project insight was supposed to attack everywhere, not just in the US and two, Dr. Strange could have simply be a high priority target.

[up] Hang on, did they establish when Doctor Strange took place? Like before or after The Winter Soldier?

Well, Insight was supposed to take out people who could eventually be a threat, in addition to current pressing targets. So it could have been targeting Stephen as a potential threat.

Before he was a sorcerer, Dr. Stephen Strange was a brilliant and talented surgeon. One of the best in his field.

It is entirely probable that Insight would have targeted him either way. In fact, I'd be more inclined to believe Insight targeting him as a brilliant surgeon than a sorcerer because Neo-Hydra has given no indication of acknowledging sorcery as a thing that exists.

New images from "Jessica Jones", featuring The Purple Man!

Hmm, Kilgrave's looking pretty beat up in one of those images. Dost I detect a Villainous Breakdown in store for the SOB? evil grin

As much as we laud the MCU for embracing its 'comic-book' side, I think that's not a step they're willing to take just yet.

Especially in the more serious-minded Netflix shows.

Wow, I honestly didn't expect him to be purple skinned in anyway for this show. My guess for why was because of the budget, so it looks like they tied the purple skin into something he only invokes for a short while.
