Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It would be odd to call a series "The Defenders" and then don't have the Defenders in it....
The Punisher does not play well with others. He's not a "team-up" guy.
Hell, the last poorly-written attempt to sell an audience on the idea of the Punisher joining a super-team still wound up having him attempting to murder everyone else on the team at the end. He's really not a team player.
The Punisher does not respect superheroes. He also does not respect murderous vigilantes, only tolerating the existence of other people like him on the rare occasions in which he can relate to them - such as the awesome character of Rachel Alves.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.He admires Captain America but Cap does not admire him.
He also has a longstanding relationship with DareDevil revolving around Murdock trying to save him from the road he's on and Castle having none of it. The relationship between the two characters is one of the most engaging character relationships the Punisher has, which is why DareDevil's show is a good place to introduce him to the MCU.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Legends of Tomorrow isn't even a concept that exists in-universe yet. Most of the characters aren't even in a place where forming a super team is even remotely possible yet. Ray Palmer is presumed dead (he's not, he's just shrunk; we don't know that yet, but dude's the Atom, of course he's shrunk), Sara Lance is currently soulless (until Constantine visits tonight, yay!), Leonard Snart is in prison, Martin Stein and Jefferson Jackson are off somewhere learning how to be Firestorm together, we just met Kendra Saunders yesterday and she's a barista in Central City, Carter Hall and Rip Hunter have both yet to appear, and Mick Rory hasn't shown up yet this season.
x5 That brings up an interesting topic. Would the Thunderbolts ever show up? If anything I would want it to be the Red Hulk/Punisher incarnation with somebody else thrown in (in place of Deadpool). Other than that, all rights are cleared. All that matters is introducing the characters. Not that I see it happening, it would just be interesting.
If they do the Thunderbolts I think they're more likely to go with the classic incarnation.
Ken Marino will be playing a villain
in Agent Carter. What's interesting is he's playing a mobster with the last name is Manfredi, just like Silvermane
from Spider-Man.

Huh, so the Maggia arrive. Wonder if Marvel will still be calling them that or if they'll just use Mafia because they're significantly less worried about retaliation by them as they were when the gangsters were first introduced in the comics.
Let's see...
Joseph Manfredi
, son of Silvio Manfredi, better known as Silvermane. Also known as the villain Blackwing.
What's particularly interesting is that both he and Madame Masque have connections to the Maggia, which suggests that they might play a role this season.

Oh God! Natural light!I'm gonna vote in favor of the classic incarnation too. It's just better in so many ways. Better written, less visually tacky, more engaging characters and plot, better use of the characters it has, and a very unique premise.
Osborn's Thunderbolts were also pretty cool but only really worked under a very specific set of circumstances that the movies are unlikely to bring about. Ross's Thunderbolts were just bad, reading like a 14-year-old's fanfic idea. "Let's put all the BADASSES together and have them be BADASS."

The classic Thunderbolts only really work in a specific situation though — the Avengers are "dead," so a new group steps up and becomes the world's heroes. It turns out, however, that they are, in fact, villains posing as heroes.
Now, we can have villains posing as heroes, but I don't think the Avengers are going to die anytime soon. And the MCU doesn't really treat its superheroes the same as the Marvel universe does.
That's true. They could take a Pragmatic Adaptation approach and combine Zemo and Osborn's premises.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Depending on how Civil War and Infinity War go, the idea of the bulk of the heroes either being splintered, retired/unwilling to act or dead is a distinct possibility. It's up in the air, but the idea of the Avengers disbanding because of successive events would work.
If that were the case, in a post Civil War world the Thunderbolts could introduce themselves as a government/public friendly group of heroes, smearing the Avengers as has-beens who put themselves above others (we've already seen a little bit of that sentiment from people in various other MCU works) - then either the Thunderbolts' actions would either cause a new group of Avengers to form, or the movie would be centered around the heroes within the Thunderbolts themselves who rebel against Zemo.

Well, taking up from the original Thunderbolts premise, the movie would be about certain members of the group Becoming the Mask and realizing they actually like being superheroes, ultimately undermining the original villainous intent. Hence, a combination of the approaches.
Osborn's premise of being the government-friendly Official Superheroes and Zemo's plot of some conspirators deciding they genuinely want to be the government-friendly Official Superheroes and deciding, "F*ck the evil plan, Imma superhero now!"

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The only real issue is that Osborn's Thunderbolts are, in theory, pretty similar to the Suicide Squad: a group of supervillains forced to serve the government and with bombs/nanochains placed in them if they don't comply. The only real difference is that the Thunderbolts were way more villainous than the Suicide Squad - hell, Bullseye was a member.
Just a moment with the black widow thing:
"Or the part where she tricked the God of Lies?"
While tricking loki was good(Im on the opinion that for a moment he surprise her with the knowlage but decide to use it against him) did it really acomplish something? the team was already arguing at that point and soon after Hawkeye comes and Lokie pretty much get away with it.
And about her being a superspy, is a little specfic set of skill that dosent show everytime so it let her a little out of the field, so far in both avenger movies have the same type of climax(a big fight with hundred of mooks) are better for some(Iron man,Thor and Hulk)than others(Cap,Hawkeye,Black widow) Ao U fix this having several moment to both Cap and Hawk but as far I remenber widow is....there, I think they are going to give her more screentime for that, maybe facing Black panther?
Actually, now That I think about it, if/when the two sides face in battle in Civil war, what match do want(or expect) to see?
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"
