Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

We don't know yet, but they've been completely silent on casting for him, and there's the whole issue of the character's Unfortunate Implications that are not impossible but tricky to avoid.
That is where I know him from! Thank you! It was killing me.
I think he will be there. We don't have anything close to a full cast list right now, and given Marvel's newfound love of the Asian box office, Wong could easily be fixed. That's just leaving money off the table to exclude him.
It shouldn't be too hard. They could easily remove the manservant aspect of his character and focus more on him being Strange's partner.

Oh God! Natural light! Some adaptations have sidestepped the manservant issue by making him Strange's instructor.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Black servant instead of Asian one. That's so much better (sorry, couldn't resist).
But yes, I'd imagine that if Wong is there, he'll be Strange's instructor and not his servant.
Also, the news about West makes me think that Mordo might be like Sinestro was in the Green Lantern film- i.e. an ally who the audience knows will become the Big Bad but isn't yet.
But actually, the more I see the cast list, the more I think that there's going to probably be some part of the movie where Strange is learning magic with other students of the Ancient One (those being Mordo and West). So having Wong be his teacher might work out well.

Well, I was thinking West based on his role in that comic. Iron Man 3 might be another good comparison for adaptation choices- so like the movie sort of adapts a comic but is a bit fast and loose in its presentation of the comic's antagonists. So potentially both West and Mordo?
Edit- Ah. I see. I thought you were suggesting him as a servant as joke/sarcastically. But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he at least starts out as an ally.

Really? Which ones?

Oh God! Natural light! The Hollywood Reporter
lists Mads Mikkelsen as part of the cast, and he was rumored to be in talks for a villain role a few months ago.
So Mordo could just be The Dragon for the real Big Bad.
Pfft, hey, if Fox can make X-Men TV shows, they can surely spare Doom for one movie.

Alternatively, Nicodemus West could only be in the movie for the scene where he's operating on Strange's hands, and they'll save The Oath for the sequel. Since Joblo's rumors were that Mordo and Dormammu were the co-Big Bads of the film and they've been 95% right on everything else so far.
For Doom, his association with Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and the Avengers might make it possible to strike a deal similar to Quicksilver's, but I don't see it. As much as he is a villain in many other Marvel comics, he's never actually stopped being a Fantastic Four villain either.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I'm kinda hoping Dormy isn't the Big Bad of this film. I don't want to see him suffer from First Movie Villain Syndrome like Red Skull, Ronan, and Cross.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Same. Let's use one of the worst superhero movies to come out in recent history as a reference point here: do not make Dormammu into Parallax, an ostensibly unstoppable cosmic entity with insufficient time to really flex his cosmic muscles, resulting in an overhyped and ultimately disappointing flop of a character.
Dormammu is the kind of villain you build up to in a film that has sufficient time to establish his threat because half of its screentime doesn't have to be dedicated to establishing the hero first.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I can see Mordo as The Heavy, and Dormammu as the Bigger Bad. I wonder if we could squeeze Umar in as a third party...
Oh God! Natural light!Winter Soldier has taught me that we can squeeze as many minor villains in as we damned well please so long as the film has a single unified narrative. None of that, "Two or three villains each with his own plans and motive and goals, each working independently of the other until they finally team up for the climax," shtick that so many superhero movies have failed at.

Nicodemus West's only appearance was in Doctor Strange: The Oath, which is interesting. Makes sense if Rachel McAdams is going to play the Night Nurse, because she appears in that story, too.
