Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'd like to include the joke where someone points out that she technically outranks Captain America but that might be better saved for Infinity War.
Oh and a cameo or allusion to Monica Rambeau.
And oh I would like if they at least acknowledged her alcoholism in some way since I think that would be unique to see in a superhero film.
By "unique" do you mean "exactly like Iron Man?" I mean, they kind of glossed over it with the whole palladium poisoning thing, but there's still a decent portion in the middle of Iron Man 2 where Tony is a raging drunk.
Also, I'm not totally clear on how the military works, but given that Carol is Air Force and Steve is Army, she doesn't actually "outrank" him. She holds a higher rank than he does, but I don't think that means anything cross-service.
Iron Man has been shown to drink and get drunk, but his alcoholism has never been directly addressed. And by Iron Man 3, he's pretty much got it under control (I don't remember him drinking in that movie or in Age of Ultron).
I hope Carol Danvers is explicitly mentioned to be a recovering alcoholic. It would be a new take on an MCU character, plus show that she has resolve.
As for plotlines: Carol doesn't really have big iconic plotlines and villains like the other Avengers in the MCU. Her arch-enemy started as Mystique and Rogue, but Marvel can't use them and they probably can't use her other arch-enemy, Deathbird (who is Shi'ar and therefore owned by Fox). And they also probably can't use the Brood (who were Carol's enemies when she was Binary and are also probably owned by Fox).
So her main enemies would either be Yon-Rogg (who was more of Mar-Vell's enemy) and Karla Sofen, Moonstone. I think that would be an interesting way to go about it, actually - Karla Sofen is Yon-Rogg's agent on Earth and uses Kree technology to become Moonstone.

Yeah, it didn't really seem to be full alcoholism in Iron Man 2 as much as it was "I Need a Freaking Drink 'cause I'm dying." He got full out drunk one night and then that was it.

Yeah, he never went full "Demon in a Bottle
," which is sad because that is pretty much Iron Man's best storyline. (According to Wikipedia, Shane Black wanted to do "Demon in a Bottle" for Iron Man 3, but Disney didn't allow him because children would be watching. Which, come on, is stupid.)

While we have an Earthling in space via Peter Quill (though he arguably doesn't identify as one any more), we don't have much of people who are a part of the modern Earth climate connecting the planet to alien races and bridging gaps and stuff without blowing them up (Thor tries, but he's still an Asgardian coming to them - mostly Earthlings are on the defensive).
So that's something I want to see in Captain Marvel. A kind of halfway point between terran Marvel and cosmic Marvel - a person who interacts with aliens but does so explicitly representing Earth. I guess that would make it more of a first contact movie or something.

Ok, I can safely say that both Monica and Jessica Drew would be great supporting characters for Carol. Her friendship with the latter is especially great.
Oh God! Natural light!I'm pretty sure the reason for Tony's abrupt recovery from alcoholism is just because Disney is no longer allowing their characters to smoke or drink. So I seriously doubt Carol's drinking problem will be appearing in the MCU anytime soon.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Uh the movies are pg13 and very idealistic on the happier side of life. You aren't going to see a full on alcoholic. That's what Netflix is for -_-. sorry Alcoholism isn't a major subplot for these films. That would just be dark and edgy tacked on cuz no director is allowed to dabble in it respectfully to change the characters' lives and relationships. Just like you won't see any females getting raped or put in prostitution (uhhmbothmsmarvelandspiderwoman) or some freaky stuff like hulk's beastly instincts to mate with she hulk/100 nigh naked Tibtian models

Depending on how they play the ATCU on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., that might be possible.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Jumping back a bit to the "Captain America vs Captain Marvel" thing, assuming those are referring to their actual ranks when they were in the service, they'd be equal, as both AF and Army use the same rank system for officers.
Steve, however, has quite a bit on Carol in terms of "time in service" (how people of the same rank determine who is "senior"), though.

All your safe space are belong to Trump

Here's a question for you: what would you like to see in the Captain Marvel movie? Because after just having read the "Enemy Within" arc, I think that'd be a great moment to use - although it'd probably be better for a sequel.
Oh God! Natural light!
