Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Oh, no way Cap wears underwear. It would just ride up and create unsightly lines against his uniform. tongue

EDIT: Also, because it got page-bottomed, Deadline is claiming they have a source that confirms Pom Klementieff is playing Mantis.

In the post-credits scene, we’ll see Nick Fury entering a dark secret backroom. He approaches someone, saying the funeral was a successful red herring but asking if it was a wise decision to let “him” think it was real as well. We hear a female British voice replying “Yes. He can’t know.” Cut to the person. Young Peggy emerges from the shadows. “Not yet.” Cut to black.

I like this idea. And then she shapeshifts back into a Skrull.

I fear, Peggy having an happy end with Steve will always be part of fanfictions only (I especially love those in which a duplicate of Peggy is send through time).

What? I don't ship often, but when I do, I ship hard, even if it is impossible...sight...Steve and Peggy are easily my favourite Pairing in the whole MCU.

Yeah, there's no way Young Peggy will show up in present day. Old Peggy will die and we might get more flashbacks to the war with Young Peggy, but deaging Peggy and setting her in modern day? I don't think that's going to happen at all.

Makes sense. There's really not too many characters she could be playing.

Wait, so if the true statement is that Peggy isn't dying in Civil War, whose funeral is happening in the movie?

And yeah, I highly doubt de-aging Peggy is going to happen. I would love it if it did, but... -sigh-...

When we're done, there won't be anything left.

It's always possible Hayley Atwell is lying or twisting the truth.

Yeah, maybe the truth is that Captain America doesn't wear underwear. We'll find out that Steve wears underwear normally, but when dressed as Captain America, he doesn't.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.

I think it's probably Peggy who died. If not, it might be someone else.

It's almost certainly Peggy, but alternatives include a random victim of the Stamford equivalent, and Steve carries the hearse due to his own guilt, or T'Chaka dies midway through the movie.

Though if he's a Wakandan national I don't know why they'd be having a funeral for him in the west. And wasn't there a British flag in the set photos for the funeral?

It makes sense. I mean, lawyers often use private investigators to find stuff out - in fact, Matt hired Jessica Jones (and later Dakota North) to be his bodyguard/private investigator. Of course, this was a show to prove to people he wasn't Daredevil, but there could be something similar in the show.

[up][up][up] Nope. Civil War only finished filming recently, and there are six months between it and Doctor Strange. They won't be filming that until next spring, probably.

....As far as I know, Daredevil and Jessica Jones have never had a sexual or romantic relationship. She was his bodyguard, but that's it.

It's not surprising because hells kitchen is so small and Jessica already dealt with a client who was put in the hospital by Daredevil. But at the same time I can't believe it's happening. To see them both in their daily lives as neighbors in such organic fashion. Matt Jessica Luke Frank Karen Misty Claire etc all within close range of each other. It's only a matter of time before these people form the defenders against a rising tide of supervilliany.i want to see how the bad guys respond back. Purple man is already in Harlem meanwhile King Pin will get out

Niiiiiiiice. More of Cox's Murdock and/or Daredevil is always welcome in my book.

On an unrelated subject, I'd like to suggest another nomination for a Marvel movie in 2020, having read the Secret Wars "tie-in": Weirdworld. If they could make the visuals even half as stunning as the art in this comic it'd still be a gorgeous experience, it'd give Marvel more genre diversity with a high fantasy sword-and-sorcery piece, and provide another outlet for the magical/extradimensional aspect of the universe.
