Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Watching people try to hammer out a precise timeline for the MCU reminds me why I avoid efforts to hammer out a precise timeline for the comics.
Time moves at the speed of plot.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I would say though for the record that I think the the Agent Carter one shot as something along the lines of a Pilot Movie for the show. So, it's sort of like a broad strokes continuity at best.
Otherwise, it's kind of depressing to think that Peggy was back to square one and being looked down on by her colleagues before Howard stepped in.
If it had taken place in 2014, Agent of shield would be in 2016 already.
Uh, no, why do think that? The fall of SHIELD happened in April of 2014. That means it's still been about a year and a half since that happened. By what rubric are you saying that it's 2016? I don't remember anyone in the show saying it was two years ago or anything regarding that. AOS pretty much sticks to the normal timeline, setting episodes on the date they air.

As I already explained: If the fall of shield had happened in April 2014, season 2 of Agent of shield would have started after the winter, setting it in 2015. But midterm elections were in 2014, not 2015. They say only one or two episodes before the Age of Ultron lead in that Coulson died two years ago at this particular point. And the battle of New York was in 2012. So if Season 2 is firmly in 2014, Season one has to have happened in 2013, and since we know exactly at which point the movies connect to the show, it would set The Winter Soldier firmly in Fall 2013, not spring 2014.
There are some others hint concerning the particular year, those are just the ones of the top of my mind.

You said this, but you didn't explain why. Why would it have to take place after winter? Because of some vague line that Talbot has been chasing them all winter? Because I'm pretty sure that just means Season 2 begins in Winter 2014. Which, you know, is when it aired.

There is also the thing with the midterm and some other dates...because Ao S sometimes gives actual years or ages of the characters when something happens to them and sometimes says "X years ago", the dates wouldn't fit together if there is a bigger time jump. They do fit, however, if you set season 1 completely in 2013, season 2 completely in 2014 and now we should be in 2015....but I haven't really checked the last dates we got yet.
Look, I agree that the movies are now advertised in a way as if they happen roughly when we watch them. But the TV shows aren't. And since Ao S is the best source for dates, I rather follow the show.

But the TV shows are set around when we watch them.
Look, Senator Ward mentioned the Midterm Elections on "A Fractured House," right? That aired on October 28, 2014. The Midterm Elections were on November 4, 2014. So the episode took place almost at the exact time it aired.

I've never really considered them as such. I always thought of them as fall, and winter starting in December.
Pretty much.

Oh God! Natural light!... This whole discussion doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The MCU is obviously not set in our world, although it is overall a case of Like Reality, Unless Noted. But like for example, the President is a fictional character and the verse's version of Operation Paperclip is somewhat different than the real one (involving SHIELD recuriting Hydra personnel and possibly Fenhoff in addition to/instead of the CIA recruiting Nazis- because SHIELD and Hydra don't actually exist

So, again, AOS Season 2 takes place from Fall 2014 to Spring 2015. That still doesn't contradict anything. Winter Soldier still took place, what, six months prior to AOS Season 2? That still places it in April of 2014. And then six months after that was when Gonzalez revealed the Real SHIELD and then Age of Ultron happened in April/May 2015 and then six months after that is AOS Season 3.
Seriously, I don't see where the timeline doesn't match. It all matches.
Saw the latest trailer for Jessica Jones.
Goddammit, the trailer didn't even show his face and already I want to see him in immense pain or worse.
So how long you guys will think it'll take for someone in the show to suggest contacting the Avengers to take down Kilgrave?

The only possible conclusion is that the Fall of Shield (and The Winter Soldier) happened in fall 2013.
Um, no, because the first season of AOS didn't only take place in 2013. It also took place in 2014. Each episode corresponds to it's release date.
