Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yes, it does. If you didn't tear up during "We...are...Groot," you have no soul.
Its not like he said it the same way every time. Apparently the script had a lot about what kind of nuance each line was supposed to have.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOn a related note, the MCU needs a telepath simply so we could have a version of this
somewhere.
But can he make you understand what he feels just with his facial expressions? And that behind a mask?
I doubt he can, but even if he could, I stand to my opinion that actors shouldn't try to use the social media in order to bully the studio into hiring them. Announcing casting decisions is the job of the studio, and one shouldn't even drop hints before the contract is signed.
Except actors have been doing that for a long, long time. It's a negotiation tactic - get the fanbase to want you in that role and you have a better chance.
Saying that the studio should be in charge of everything ever seems to be like saying the actors shouldn't have any say in anything.

Unless it is for a minor movie, which is hinging on some star power (as it was the case with the Deadpool movie, which most likely wouldn't even been made without the media engagement of Ryan Reynolds), I have never seen this work, though. In fact the actor which gets the most media attention tends to be the one who doesn't get the role in the end.
Plus, Vin Diesel is not just saying "hey, I am interested in playing that role", he is practically saying "Marvel wants me and nobody else". Which will end in a very embarrassing situation if Marvel gives the role to someone else. And not for studio.
You assume Vin Diesel is intimidated by the prospect of an embarrassing situation.

It's never NOT funny when actors used to playing Bad Ass action heroes show up in family films.
He's a Dungeons And Dragons nerd with muscles the size of your head, his own billion-dollar franchise, his own video game studio, and several other franchises that can more or less be summarized as "Vin Diesel blows shit up." He wore the name of his DnD character Melkor - who he named after a character from The Silmarillion - fake-tattooed on his body while filming xXx and had plans to produce a video game about him.
Vin Diesel knows no fear.
