Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Speaking of X-Men, it looks like Marvel is helping bring X-Men to TV in a partnership with Fox.
http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/622643-x-men-tv-series-hellfire-legion#/slide/1
•First one, "Hellfire", sounds like somebody investigating the Hellfire Club •Second one, "Legion", is about...well...Legion.
This makes me feel like Marvel came to a deal with Fox, so I expect to see at least rumors of marvel developing a new FF.
I just said in the live-action TV thread but my guess is they gave up something like merchandising rights to the X-Men, which is what Sony did with Spider-Man at one point. That seemed to ease a lot of tension between them.
As for the FF it's way too soon to try that AGAIN even if it is Marvel this time.

You mean the exact thing that happened?
Like, that's not even a hypothetical scenario about a future Spider-Man Cinematic Universe movie. It's what happened with Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Speaking as someone who knows people who suffer from Dissociative Personality Disorder; I really hope any adaptation of Moon Knight makes clear that he had the disorder before the Egyptian God thing; because otherwize it would just serve to further mystify an already wildly misunderstood disorder.
Warren Ellis actually talked to someone with DID, who made him promise to get rid of Spector's DID plotline because of how unrealistic it was - so in the very first issue of Ellis's run, his psychiatrist points out that you can't catch DID from pretending to be other people (or else every actor would have it) and the things Spector was seeing were the result of being possessed by Khonshu.
Now I am confused.....it is clear why Fox wants an X-men series, but I don't see how the other series might fit in the MCU, and really, doesn't have Marvel more than enough planned already?
Either way, I had hoped (expected) that this deal somehow involved the Fantastic Four, too. And no, not because of the team itself, but everything which is connected to it. But it looks like Marvel went for the permission to make a TV show instead? Looks like a shoddy deal for Marvel (since they really don't need an X-men TV-show), if you ask me, unless there is more to it.
Okay...I was confused because apparently one show is produced by Fox and the other by Marvel?
Both shows are being co-produced by Fox and Marvel. Because Marvel owns the television rights, but Fox has the film rights. One show will be on Fox, while the other show will be on FX - both channels owned by Fox.
Ah, now I got it...
Which still begs the question: What did Marvel get that they agreed to not one but two TV shows? That one of the mysterious slotted movie might be either a Fantastic Four or a Silver Surfer movie just became more likely.
I mean, would there be a better start in phase 4 than introducing Galactus? As a danger current far, far away but moving closer and closer in the direction of earth?
I just don't think that money cuts it, especially since this move allows another competitor into the TV segment.
And Fox can't hold onto the rights forever without making another movie in a few years. One which might end up yet another box office bomb. (Fox really has a bad year, btw).

The deal only solidifies Fox's contract with X Men. The most speculated and easy choice to pick for Marvel Studio's end of the bargain is Fantastic Four because we all want it back home. However, that is a huge brand for Fox to suddenly give up in exchange for two lesser known products that may not gather the viewership they intended. Once again Fox is too stubborn to give up any of their rights, meanwhile Marvel Studios is friendly enough to corporate as long as they get at least something of equal significant amount.
Marvel Studios has three announced movies for 2020 and Dan of Geek insists the first one on being Fantastic Four because of this deal. It's just more proof fans want it back home immediately because of the possibility. I think the possibility is low, that's all. I would be surprised if Fox learned it would be in betters hands at Marvel Studios. That would also mean Fox is desperate for attention by going with two X Men stories that don't make much sense in the long run. To me it sounds like they are running out of hope to keep their verse alive. Give away an arm to keep your wisdom teeth...
