Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If they do make a Moon Knight series, I hope they go with the latest Warren Ellis run - it basically reinvigorated the character and made him pretty popular after a somewhat lackluster few books.
Plus, it includes this line: "You're not insane. Your brain has been colonized by an ancient consciousness from beyond space-time. Smile."
Elias Spector fled Europa to escape Nazis. His destination was America. There he had a son in Chicago. Although Elias was a rabbi, Marc wanted nothing to do with the Jewish religion. Instead the boy went after fast cash and cheap thrills, begging with boxing before moving onto the marines where he trained as a commando, but that bored him so he decided next to become a liaison to the CIA, and finally a gun for higher by any arm dealers who open up to him.
Oh yes already this origin sounds very much like Bruce Wayne... in contrast to something like the Taylors dying from a sudden thug attack, inheriting their money in ten fold, and building a better Taylor foundation while using this motivation to put on a costume to invoke fear into those who dare to harm the innocent. He was raised by the family's associate, Andrew Chord... blah blah blah
Note: Grant Morison once said Cyclops was Marvel's Batman.

Marc Spector is a rich billionaire who goes out at night with gadgets and beats up criminals, inspiring fear in them. He doesn't have any powers or a suit of armor or a hammer. He is vengeance. He is the night. He is Moon Knight.
Wow, that sounds surprisingly like Batman.
Note: Grant Morison once said Cyclops was Marvel's Batman.
Grant Morrison once said he was abducted by aliens in Kathmandu.

Iron Man is "Marvel's Batman" in the sense of characters who are most comparable to each other.
That being said, that Moon Knight was written to be an Alternate Company Equivalent of Batman seems pretty evident. I caught onto it before I even knew his comparable secret identity due to the fact that his costume is a photo-negative of Batman and he throws moon-erangs.

Now would probably be a good time to plug this article I wrote.

This is a poor faux generalization of Moon Knight that at best tells me nothing about his similarities are more similar than Daredevil (both had a parent die, both live in a crapsack city, both choose to personify a certain symbol that inspires the hopeless and creates fear into the darkness, both don't have Iron Man/Lex Luthor weaponry, both were trained by ninjas to be the best at human physical preference, and both use super senses , except one was born with it while the other uses tech, to do detective work).
1: Marc has suerpowers. Depending on the moon's phase, the physical actions of what he can do is enhanced beyond peek human capability and once used an unamed magical item.
2:The premise that he was ever an industrialist like Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark has long-since been abandoned the moment he was written. He ignored his own families wealth to go out on his own. In Bendis' series it's implied he stole money from criminals. His last legitimate job was as the executive producer of a Moon Knight syndicated series. Apparently it was a hit and ran for multiple seasons, so it could have netted him upwards of $50,000,000.
3: He has mediocre high tech suits, one notably can transform like Iron Man. Much like Hawkeye his weaponry is decent. In fact Hawkeye gave him weapons.
4: Khonshu, an actual deity, drives Marc to commit acts of violence against the unjust. Once he mellowed he realized Khonshu was not a god of vengeance, but a god of justice. As his motivation evolved from responsibility of vengeance to responsibility of justice he became less of a killer and more of a traditional hero. And before any of this was aware to him he went on massive killing sprees, something Bruce would never adhere to. He never asked to personify anything. He never cared for symbolism until an other worldly enininity that demeaned it be recognized as one came into his life.
5: Batman is not about vengeance. I thought someone already said that a week ago.
6: Marc considers the Avengers as pansies and would rather work by himself or the raw, hard core, and graphic heroes. Basically he prefers to be a Marvel Knight or Max title despite any bit of idealistic Cape within him.
7: Moon Knight is diagnosed with Dissociative Disorder while Batman has major Hero Sndrome (all about Altruism).
7: You can't convince me these two characters are alike.

What's this about me being a villain in a Thor movie?
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.5: Batman is not about vengeance. I thought someone already said that a week ago.
As Batman sayeth: "I am vengeance, I am the night, I...am...Batman!" *mic drop*
Also, all the rest of what you said are merely details. Moon Knight is the equivalent of Batman - because Doug Moench really wanted to write Batman, so he made a different version of him.
What you seem to be saying, then, is because he's not exactly similar to Batman, he can't be Batman. Unfortunately, that's not the way it works. He was created to be Marvel's Batman and even though he has strayed from that path (what with the craziness and all), he still is.
Also, he doesn't have any superpowers. It used to be his strength waxed and waned with the moon, but writers eventually figured out that was stupid and got rid of it. He relies solely on fighting skills and gadgets.
7: Moon Knight is diagnosed with Dissociative Disorder while Batman has major Hero Sndrome (all about Altruism).
Moon Knight doesn't have DID. See above, re: his brain was colonized by an outerterrestrial entity.
Person of Interest is ending, right? Then Jim Caviezel would be perfect.

I don't think strength dependent on the phase of the moon is inherently more stupid than a dude throwing moonerangs.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersPeople love to point out how Batman is a psychologically disturbed individual who seems just as psychotic as the ambiguously-disordered crazies he fights.
Moon Knight, meanwhile, has an actual mental illness.

I wouldn't put too much stock into the Moon Knight rumour just yet, considering the source. There might have been discussions but let's be honest here, Netflix is pretty booked for the next two years.
