Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Maybe Thor is helping Hulk hide out in Asgard? Or one of the other Nine Realms? Perhaps one where there isn't many people, so any Hulk outs wouldn't hurt anyone?

If true that rumor would be very amusing, since it basically means that instead of a lot of sequels for everybody Phase 3 is dealing with the bulk of the current Avengers members by putting them into a couple of crossovers instead.

[up] That's not a bad idea, really.

They could do a number of team up movies....Scarlet Witch and Vision, Spider-man meets Daredevil, Falcon and The Winter Soldier aso.

I would love a Spider-Man/Daredevil movie.

Black Widow/Hawkeye/War Machine actually sounds like a neat idea for a team, since all of them are closer to the "modern military" side of the current superheroes (even Cap is largely an outsider to that sort of thing in the present), and they have very distinct sets of abilities and skills.

Or Black Widow and the Wasp. I suddenly realized that I really want to see them going on a spy mission together.

The site claims he was abducted by someone or something.

LOL Marvel tweeted this the day of the rumor.

lol...now I REALLY want to see this in Thor Ragnarok.

BTW, I am ready to bet that the Time Stone will turn up in it. After all, if they destroy all Asgard, they need some way to rewind, right?

I really don't think they are going to destroy all of Asgard and then bring it back with time travel. It would be too much of a cop out. If they do destroy it, then they will probably go the way of the comics and recreate it on Earth.

@Karkat The Dalek

....and in Hulk's case, practical, given the issue with Universal.

[up][up][up]My vision would be for Asgard to be destroyed (and potentially Earth to fall under attack) very early in the movie. Thor would use the Time Stone not much more than a half hour into the movie.

So instead of time travel being used as a way of undoing the main conflict of the movie, the main conflict will entirely take place in the past.

This could be used as a way to bring Asgard to Earth, since that could be how Thor saves Asgard.

[up][up]The idea to put the destruction of Asgard early sounds great...but I would make the movie about the quest for the time stone. I mean, Loki might know where it is....

No Time Stone. I would rather the Time Stone not appear at all in the movie.

I think the Time Stone should be saved for Guardians 2.

[up]If we want to see the Magus show up, then yeah definitely.

The Soul Stone sounds like it'd be a better fit for Ragnarok, anyway.

If I were doing things I'd introduce the Soul Stone in Doctor Strange and the Time Stone in Guardians 2.

I don't think that there will be another stone in Got G Vol 2. I will be hard enough to get the one on Xandar to earth. I have the feeling that the others are closer together.

Why would it be hard to get the Power Stone to Earth?

>Thanos steals Power Stone
>Thanos goes to Earth

Done.

Also, they're already pretty spread out. One's on Xandar, one's in Knowhere, one's in Asgard, and one is on Earth.

I was thinking Guardians 2 would end with Thanos getting the Time Stone. The opening of Infinity War 1 would then be Thanos raiding Xandar and stealing the Power Stone before heading for Earth.

I actually expect that the end credit stinger of Got G will be Thanos having stolen the power stone from the vault in Xandar.

Speaking of, I'm still kind of bugged that Age of Ultron doesn't have a post-credits scene, because it's for a totally flimsy reason.
