Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Question I asked was getting buried:
So about that Daredevil season 2 tease: Whose skull that got X-Rayed was that?
Anyone want to hear the MCU Luke Cage say the famous catchphrase?
SPOILER: It's just about freaking perfect.
Colter talks about Luke Cage a little
. They're sticking with the idea of him being a fugitive, it sounds like.

Whether or not we see Nova in Phase 4 I think will have a lot to do with how much of the Corps we get in Guardians Vol. 2
Also, as a television series, you can't really say to your entire cast and crew "Okay, be at our beck and call in three years when we're ready to do another one."
Also, the second season of Daredevil does not in any way interfere with Luke Cage or Iron Fist. I think part of the problem is that people are thinking of the Defenders series almost as if they're four seasons of one show leading up to a fifth, crossover season. They're not. They're four separate series leading to a crossover miniseries. So Daredevil's cast and crew working on a second season isn't impacting how quickly the other shows are getting made.
I know I'm new here and this is completely out of nowhere, but back before Marvel had the rights to Spidey, was it possible at the time to attempt to use Miles Morales? My reasoning behind this comes from an old studio situation with James Bond, where one studio owned the film rights to a single book and successfully made a film at the same time as another film under the original studio. (I believe the films were "Never Say Never Again" and "Octopussy" but I'm not sure.
In theory, since Miles Morales was created after the deal with Sony was struck giving Sony the film rights to Spider-Man, could Marvel use Miles in place of Peter in the event that Sony wouldn't budge? (I'm sorry if this isn't making any sense.)

Doubt it, since he's associated primarily with Spider-Man (especially since he actually IS Spider-Man). While we don't know the specifics of these contracts, it does seem to go by who the character is associated with. Galactus=Fantastic Four. Scarlet Witch=Avengers.
EDIT:
Didn't stop them from making a Guardians Of The Galaxy cartoon, despite the series lasting 25 issues.

Technically, Guardians of the Galaxy has been around for a long time - the original team (from the year 3000) appeared in 1969 and had a long-running series in 1990s that ran for 62 issues. The team that the movie is based on, however, lasted for 25 issues, plus The Thanos Imperative crossover, then a mini-series called Annihilators, then a new series in 2012. But there are plenty of cosmic storylines they can pull from.

It makes sense, don't worry. But that's not how the contracts work. The people who licensed the characters got any future IP as well, which is how (just to use an example) the X-Men movies were able to use a bunch of recent characters. People like Azazel, Ink, Angel II and Darwin were all created way after Marvel signed over the rights in the 90's.
Just make it so that the Nova Force is some sort of experimental secret weapon that wasn't widely used before now.

Or perhaps they'll gain access to it by trying to replicate some of the Power Stone's properties.
The fact is they know Thanos is going to come for the Stone sooner or later, and with most of their conventional defenses destroyed I could see the Xandarians decide to apply the Power Stone itself as a defensive measure.

That's a good theory. Makes sense.
Also as to the Runaways, just as recently as Phase 3's announcement Feige said they still have the script and that it comes up whenever they do discussions about new properties. He said the problem is they don't have enough room to make everything they want, so it could be one of the films in the three new slots.
Going back to the rumour about Hulk co-starring in Thor Ragnarok, I'm having mixed feelings on the idea. Sure, it would be nice for Hulk to have more screentime in the MCU, but on the other hand, if there's any hero that I think should co-star with Thor, it's Beta Ray Bill.
Runaways is interesting because it uses one thing that the movies can't use (mutants) and another than the movies haven't used at all yet (time travel). Mutants can easily be replaced with Inhumans and having Molly Hayes be an Inhuman would be interesting way to introduce them after the Inhumans movie, but having time travel would essentially be even more interesting.
But honestly, all I want to see is Old Lace being awesome. And Molly. And everyone else. Seriously, it would be awesome.

I was going to say that there wasn't any time travel in the initial volume, but remembered that the Yorkes are time travelers.
Not sure what to do with them- they fit a setting that is more Fantasy Kitchen Sink than the MCU.
Also, I'd probably change Karolina's parents to being Kree or Xandarian criminals.
I don't think they have to change it to Kree or Xanderian - we already know a ton of aliens are out there courtesy of Guardians of the Galaxy. I mean, it would actually be pretty interesting we saw some Majesterians in GOTG Vol. 2.
As for the Fantasy Kitchen Sink aspect - yeah, but I suspect that won't be as much of a problem after Doctor Strange.

But I'm starting with the assumption that Kamala Khan should be introduced as soon as there is a logical place for her character to be. And an audience surrogate in the Inhumans movie feels like a viable place for her.
