Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Both bother me extremely.
And it's especially stupid for the Daredevil show to pretend torture is effective because, as I understand it from the show, Matt's Living Lie Detector ability derives from listening to a person's heartbeat; if it's elevated or different in some other way, it means they're lying. The probable ineffectiveness of this aside, that context makes any use of torture by the show even MORE moronic, because a person who is terrified or in extreme pain is of course going to have an elevated heart rate and other signs of extreme stress that could not be distinguised from any stress resulting from lying.
Several pages ago, someone wondered who could be the villain of Ant-Man & Wasp.
My bet would be William Cross (a.k.a Crossfire). Crossfire was used as Ant-Man's arch-enemy in Earth's Mightiest Heroes, he is currently serving as a recurring enemy of his in the current comics, and he's also the Big Bad of the Ant-Man prose book marvel released (Ant-Man: Natural Enemy) last year and he was planned to show up in the movie before Edgar Wright left and the rewriters came (and Patrick Wilson was playing him). This points to Marvel selling him as something of an Ant-Man villain lately.
Furthermore, he's the cousin of Darren Cross which gives him a built-in reason for hating Scott Lang for the sequel. In the book (Ant-Man: Natural Enemy) and in Earth's Mightiest Heroes William Cross is portrayed as a former criminal acquaitance of Scott's, which gives him a reasonably good Evil Counterpart claim (or at least a dramatic weight as a living reminder of the sins Scott comitted).
That's the basis for the theory. If you need more convicing, I have two more things: A) EMH gave him a bitching design which would look awesome in Live-action
◊ B) Imagine a guy whose approach to fighting Ant-Man is shooting him. He tries shooting fucking Ants. (and presumably gets close to hitting him, which would give us Scott jumping from bullet to bullet in ant-size amidst a barrage of fire).
He originally was, but as of the last few years he seems to be undergoing a Rogues' Gallery Transplant to Ant-Man, probably as a result of Darren Cross becoming an Ascended Extra.
And well, they can change his monocle (though I'm somewhat sure he already had that in the comics), I was mostly referring to the black suit with the red tie with a target logo on it
.
Crossfire's bit is mind-control and espionage, so he'd be a good fit for a lot of the current set of Marvel characters. He could work if they ever do that Black Widow movie, for instance.
I see him working better as The Dragon than as a Big Bad, though.
I think Ant-Man and Wasp's villain should be a classic Ant-Man or Wasp villain, since the characters have so few of those in the first place. Whirlwind, Elihas Starr, Hank Pym himself, maybe even an modern update of the People's Defense Force... and that's about it. They might as well use one, at least.
I'm also still hanging desperately onto that Radioactive Man rumor from years back despite it being so dead it's practically dust at this point.

x4 I'm pretty sure Suicide Squad's coming out sooner than Ant-Man & Wasp, so...
The leak teaser will never go away http://m.youtube.com/?#/watch?v=8mJZac3ft0M
but its crappy.quality

Question: does the torture thing bother you more or less than the fact that (a few minutes later) Matt put the guy in a coma?
