Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Considering that he also said that the movies will references the TV shows, nope.

Oh my god, I thought you were joking about that "heard it bars" thing, but nope, you weren't. This is what Rich Johnston literally said: "In the New York bars last night I heard from other well connected sources that the second shoe dropping will be the move of the planned Inhumans movie off the slate completely."

That...that isn't even remotely how journalism works. At all. Say it's from "connected sources," not from "some dude at a bar."

[up][up] I know, right?! I wasn't joking at all, but it's still ridiculous.

" I heard it in some New York bars, what do you mean it isn't true?!"

I doubt it's even going to be "closely tied." None of the Inhumans in the show so far are existing ones from the comics, leading me to believe they're saving the actual Inhumans for the movie.

Lash is from the comics.

Literally heard "news" from some dude in a bar. People are getting desperate for any kind of dirt on the MCU.

[up][up] He's a recent addition. The Inhumans that are most familiar to comics are the Royal Family, i.e. Black Bolt, Medusa, Gorgon, etc.

Anyways...I weep for the state of modern journalism.

[up][up]This just fits with his newly found hate boner for Kevin Feige and all the mud he's been slinging about how Feige was the REAL person hurting the MCU and Pearlmutter was Mis-blamed.

Mean old Kevin is now cancelling the Inhumans just to spite poor martyred Ike!

Saw the Jessica Jones teaser from a couple of pages ago.

Look, David Tennant may be fun as the 10th Doctor (at least IMO), but that teaser is making me want to pray that something or someone will beat the shit out of Kilgrave. evil grin

How about literally everyone in the MCU lining up to punch him in the face.

That'd be swell.

[up][up] I'm not that familiar with the character, and I haven't actually seen the trailer, so I have to ask: Is Jessica Jones really that physical a character? I was under the impression that her series (as in, the comic series, Alias) was more about the detective work than it was fucking up people's shit.

[up]One thing doesn't have to do with the other. Jessica is that physical of a character, which the teasers did reflect. Still, it is true her comic series was not about her fucking people up, focusing on her detective work and her own issues. Still, she absolutely do kick ass and I expect the series to show that. If anyone will kick Killgrave on the face, it will probably be her.

Okay. Question answered.

Like I said, I didn't watch the teaser, and I haven't read Alias. I've started avoiding pre-release materials for stuff, lately.

I'll never understand what the hell kind of a title "Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane" is.

That's not a title, that's just a bland statement.

We should get comic series titled "Hulk Wears Pants", "Iron Man Has An Alcoholism Issue", "Thor Carries A Hammer Around Everywhere", and "Captain America Is A Wartime Propoganda Icon That's Been Retooled And Deconstructed By Changes In Entertainment Media Standards In The 60's".

it seems more similar to the titles of japanese light novels/anime. i think that particular comic was inspired by shoujo manga so i'm not surprised.

Okay, hang on. I just noticed this, so bear with me, but in the final scene of Age of Ultron, is Wanda flying/levitating off the ground?

I wasn't criticizing the comic itself, just pointing out how silly the title is. tongue

[up][up]Yup. Though remember that Captain Marvel was originally going to be in that shot, so one wonders how much Wanda will fly in the following films.

Wanda can only get stronger, so the question is whats her next feats
