Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up][up][up] I'm gonna use this opportunity to fancast Bryan Cranston as Norman Osborn.

Maybe he won't be wasted like he was in Godzilla.

[up][up] Norman: "I could be a supervillain and not even know it"

Peter: "Oh, Mr Osborn, you old clown, you."

He'd be perfect as Norman- especially the "Big Bad of the Marvel Universe Norman".

Also, while not precisely a villain, I could see him as J. Jonah Jamesson. Also have "proposed" Nick Offerman for that role.

Bryan Cranston as MODOK. Make it happen, people.

I don't know, I just can't picture Cranston as Osborn. Maybe Mister Negative, though.

[up] Yeah, he is.

Mister Negative is such a hokey sounding name for a villain.

What about Peter Quill's dad, whoever he is in this continuity. I could kind of see him as Star Fox, imagined as an older and apparently unassuming/retired but still extremely powerful douchebag.

On the other hand, from what little I know of him Star Fox seems to be a role practically made for Bruce Campbell.

Mr Negative is no worse than Green Goblin, I guess

What I wanna know is when we're going to get Armless Tiger Man in the MCU.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

lol screenrant thinks Inhumans is canceled because of some rumors.

does anyone think MCU should dabble into the western side of marvel comics, aka people like two kid gun?

lol screenrant thinks Inhumans is canceled because of some rumors.

It's Bleeding Cool that's putting forth those rumors, so yeah, it's probably incredibly false.

Okay, Clark Gregg is awesome on the NYCC Agents of SHIELD/Agent Carter panel:

"We'd like to talk to some mutants, but they are in a terrifying realm," Gregg said when asked whether mutants appeared on "S.H.I.E.L.D." "They live in a frightening realm called 'The Copyright Zone.' Someday we will all live in harmony."

When it doesn't happen he'll say "They were going to cancel Inhumans but the online outrage raised by my article caused them to reconsider!" just like he did last time.

Why cancel Inhumans when they've already introduced the concept into the universe?

Because apparently since Perlmutter still controls the TV division, Feige wants to insult him by cancelling the one property that closely tied to a TV series? Even though that makes no sense whatsoever.

I doubt it's even going to be "closely tied." None of the Inhumans in the show so far are existing ones from the comics, leading me to believe they're saving the actual Inhumans for the movie.

I don't think Feige is that petty.
