Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

fucking purple man... creepy stocker pedifle sounding guy
i vote Spiderman because the coming of age story won't be coming of age if the next time we seem him would be 6 something years later. Kevin spoke as if he wanted to do a harry potter but within this time frame that can't happen unless he gets another sequel off the back

Looking at the new schedule it appears that Black Panther is once again before Infinity War Part 1 and Captain Marvel is still slated to be before part 2. Which really makes me think that there is a major story reason for Captain Marvel to be between the two halves of Infinity War.
Can't say I'm happy to see Captain Marvel delayed at all, but I'm glad that the Wasp is becoming a title character in the next movie in the Ant-Man franchise so as a whole I'm happy to the news.

I thinkcaptain marvel would be more with inhumans since her origin starts off kree centric.
I'm burnt out on batman. There still hasn't been a Spiderman focused only on Peter's teenager years and the rest of the marvel verse was never in conjectution with his adventures

What Spider-Man really needs is an original villain. Like Kraven the Hunter.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."And here I thought that the announcement would finally shut up the people who claim that the box office result of Ant-Man is in any shape of form a disappointment....
One the one hand: Yey! I really hope that the movie will be about rescuing the original Wasp. And I might read too much into it, but I have the feeling that this will be more a Wasp than an Ant-Man movie, but they want to use the known name for marketing reasons (though this will be a nightmare to translate into German...Ant-man und Wasp sounds really, really stupid, but then, Ant-man already did, too).
On the other hand: Sigh...at this rate it will be 2022 until Mrs Marvel finally gets her movie, because of constant delays. I get it but...oh, well....
I guess it is a safe bet that one of the three unknown movies will be Spider-man 2, due to the 3 year rule. Hopefully one will be the Black Widow Spy-movie I really, really want to see. The third...might simply be a place holder for something along the line of Got G 3 or Dr. Strange 2.
I know it will never happen, but I thought of them doing a version of Spider-Verse wherein Peter would meet various alternative universe Spideys including a Spider-Woman (Emma Stone in the Spider-Gwen outfit); Ultimate Spider-Man (Donald Glover as Miles); Superior Spider-Man/ an evil Spider-Man (played by Andrew Garfield).
Guardians made $94 million on its opening weekend, rivaling Winter Soldier. It didn't "gain momentum", it hit the ground running.
Ant-Man, meanwhile, made $57 million on its opening weekend, rivaling The Incredible Hulk, then managed to crawl to a point where it could compete with the Phase 1 movies, but still fell flat against the kind of earnings the rest of Phase 2 made. It gained enough momentum not to fail completely, but is still visibly wounded.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Black Panther and Captain Marvel are now coming out during the deadest moviegoing period of the year.
Such confidence Marvel has in them.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.![]()
I'm still right about Ant-Man and you know it. If the movie really didn't make any money, they never would have greenlit a sequel.
It gained enough momentum not to fail completely, but is still visibly wounded.
Oh, please, your metaphors are tortured enough. It made three times it's budget already. It didn't break the box office, but it was still a winner.

The movie did make money. It made $409 million.
The point is that it could have made more. It didn't fail, but there is a clear financial impact brought on by all the hurt feelings and negativity toward the film. It underperformed the rest of Phase 2 right out of the starting gate, and that's not because Ant-Man is an unworkable premise; that it gained the momentum it did is proof of that.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Ant-Man didn't perform less than it could because of some bizarre Black Widow fanbase blitzkrieg, it performed less than it could because every single person on the planet was "lol ants" for a long-ass time before the positive buzz convinced them.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Yes, and only making three times its budget is pretty disappointing by MCU standards.
Every other film in Phase 2 has broken half a million, even the equally-implausible Guardians of the Galaxy. A raccoon with a minigun made almost twice as much money as Ant-Man.

ant-man was a completely unknown character with a premise most people weren't going to immediately find impressive, as opposed to Got G being a comedic space opera.

That Ant-Man made money on par with Phase 1 instead of Phase 2 is my point.

It wouldn't surprise me if one of them is another Spider-Man.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
