Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

In a surprise move
, we are now getting an Ant-Man and the Wasp movie in Phase 3!
Good news, this is the first MCU movie with a heroine's name in the title, and Black Panther is now coming several months earlier. Bad news, Captain Marvel has now been pushed back to 2019.

Ooh, looks like we are indeed getting "Ant-Man and the Wasp", and sooner rather than later. Black Widow fans are probably going to be super salty though, even if it does turn out one of the 2020 films are for her.
Edit:Damn,
'd hard.
Probably same reason as Iron Fist. Can't think of what they want to do with her, let alone cast her.

They could do both! Both would be great!
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I guess the push back could be because of the expenses with the other movies.
I do tend to support the idea though that Marvel is so afraid that films with non-white male leads will fail that they want to make sure that guaranteed earners come first/will push the more diverse firms as far back as possible (and are ready to cancel them at a moment's notice).
Come on, Feige. Perlmutter's gone. You KNOW the fanbase is there. Black Widow movie, announce it. ANNOUNCE IT.
Just speak the words, "We are making a Black Widow movie," and watch 80% of the growing animosity towards the MCU disappear overnight. It's that simple.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Despite my distaste for the lack of diversity, I'm not really a fan of the Black Widow movie idea.
I guess it's a combination of Scarlet Johansson's acting and the fact that the character is established as someone whose real personality, if she has one, is hidden under layers of artifice (but then so is Bruce Wayne's and they keep making movies about him).

I don't think one will be Black Widow if only because the announcement proudly trumpets how Ant-Man and the Wasp is the first MCU movie with a woman's name in the title. It's clear they were going for the diversity brownie points with that one, so I feel like if we are getting Black Widow, they would have used that to anchor the announcement instead of the Wasp.
"I can't believe they're making a f*cking ANT-MAN movie before giving Black Widow a film. Who the f*ck cares about Ant-Man?" ~countless Black Widow fans.
- Iron Man 3: $1.2 Billion.
- Thor The Dark World: $645 million.
- Captain America The Winter Soldier: $715 million.
- Guardians Of The Galaxy: $774 million.
- The Avengers Age Of Ultron: $1.4 Billion
- Ant Man: $409 million
You pissed off your fanbase and, as a result, the movie made the kind of relatively small pickings the franchise hasn't seen since Phase 1. The fanbase has spoken. Announce Black Widow.

Tbh despite wanting more female-led movies I kinda feel the same way. She's not bad in the role, just really humdrum. Whedon wrote her functionally in the Avengers but I wasn't blown away by her like others were. I liked her in The Winter Soldier but that had more to do with the writing, and playing up to Scarjo's natural strengths and her chemistry with Chris Evans. If they get a different writer and director I wouldn't have much interest in it unless they bring in other, more well acted characters or in-demand new ones.
The fact that it's not a Black Widow movie specifically has little to do with it. There's a lot of other factors involved, and GOTG is the only other non-sequel on there and its huge success is considered an anomaly. Also, it's a common case of Mis-blamed since that movie was in development before Iron Man. If there's a movie people should boycott for lack of diversity it should be Doctor Strange.

@Hodor: Well, Black Panther is actually now scheduled for an earlier date, so not precisely.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI just noticed this but it sounds like Purple Man is an Evil Brit in this version. I'm fine with it because I'm not wowed by the actor's attempt at an American accent.
Ant-Man: $409 million
$409 million dollars is nothing to scoff about, especially since the movie was made for $130 million, so it's already earned back three times it's budget (Age of Ultron, on the other hand, was made for $279.9 million, meaning it pretty much had to earn way more). And I don't even think that the film has opened in China yet, so it will probably earn even more.
You pissed off your fanbase and, as a result, the movie made the kind of relatively small pickings the franchise hasn't seen since Phase 1. The fanbase has spoken. Announce Black Widow.
I really doubt that Kevin Feige cares if the fanbase is pissed off or not. The movie made less because it was a lesser known hero, just like Guardians of the Galaxy earned relatively less when it first came out before it gained momentum.
Also, the "fanbase" is not one united entity. I've seen plenty of comments saying that this is good news because they love the Wasp.

Well, that one actually showed her face and was also super creepy.
