Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

RWBY is pretty cool, though! But a live action RWBY should be like a punishment in hell for lack of creativity.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

[up] It does say he's "in negotiations" so I wouldn't consider it final just yet.

He doesn't have a lot of screenwriting credits to his name at this point, but apparently he did write a screenplay for the Inhumans movie but the article suggests it's not expected for Marvel to use his screenplay.

If Marvel thought his Inhumans screenplay was of high quality, but ran contrary to their current plans for the movie (which might not even of been his fault, since their plans could of changed), I could see them offering him Black Panther.

A few of the other MCU writers were people that did early work on other projects but then were given different ones. The guy who did Iron Man 3 originally wrote a Runaways screenplay that almost got made before getting axed, and I think one of the Captain Marvel writers did a very early Guardians draft.

[up] Yeah, Nicole Perlman was the one responsible for Marvel going ahead with Guardians on the first place.

[up][up] That makes sense.

I wonder if the Inhumans screenplay he wrote was never intended as anything other than an application for the job of writing the real Black Panther screenplay, and everyone involved knew there was a 90% chance it would never see the light of day.

I just remembered this week is New York Comic Con and there's gonna be a Marvel TV panel. So we should get some news for the upcoming MCU shows.

[up] To make a prediction, I'd say they'll use it to launch their first full Jessica Jones trailer (though I've enjoyed the minute-long teasers we've gotten so far). We are past due if you compare the first Daredevil trailer with Daredevil's release date.

Yeah, I'm thinking they will premiere the Jessica Jones teaser (not sure when it will be online) and then perhaps some casting decision for Iron Fist (who might show up in Luke Cage).

[up] The only question is if the timeline could support it since Iron Fist might still be in Kun-Lun when the first season of Luke Cage takes place.

That would be neat. And yeah it is weird they've waited this long for a Jessica Jones trailer but I suspect the short teasers were leading up to it.

[up][up] Well, we're getting a powered Luke Cage in Jessica Jones and then we're going to explore his origins, I believe, in Luke Cage. So they might do the same thing with Iron Fist.

these Jessica Jones trailers are great, showing off all the relevant details nessecery to gain a basic understanding of Jessica's characterization and power set. They are also atompshertic, which creates a state of mind like ambient music. The show will indeed be a tastement to the introspective style marvel cinematic universe products have been known for. Now... just some info on Hellcat please

They did include a poster in the last teaser that had "Trish Talk" on it, with Trish Walker's face.

yeah, Trish Walker's a talk show host! And a former model, apparently.

I love this comment from a Cracked article:

Steve Rogers meets two gods. Still a Christian.

Tony Stark meets two gods. Still an atheist.

Bruce Banner meets two gods. Smashes them both.

Hehe.
