Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up][up][up]Would love to see them pull off that origin on a TV budget.

I didn't want to make a dragonheart reference so I went with that thing. I think it was a movie about something.

I wouldn't worry about the number of powered people in the MCU, now that it has gotten a dose of fish oil. It will change your life!

[up]A whole season just so Marvel can satirize fish oil ads.

@Bocaj: I said MCU series, not movies.

@Kostya: Skye is the ONLY superpowered member of the cast so far, and it took until the second half of season 2 for her to get her powers. I already mentioned Daredevil, and Luke Cage and Iron Fist haven't started their series yet.

Sparkplug, the only Inhuman that didn't seem insane.

[up][up]Inhuman with electrical powers from the second half of season two. He's been promoted to series regular for season three.

The mention of Cal was in reference to Skye being the only superpowered member of the main cast. Cal techinically has superpowers, if "induced" ones due his formula.

He wasn't a regular, though, otherwise I would have pointed out Deathlock, who certainly does qualify as kind of superpowered.

Cal was more regular than Deathlok

Ah, so there will be a second Inhuman in the main cast for season 3. Nice.

[up]The Inhumans prequel show is turning out nice. [lol]

Gee, it's almost like you are criticizing the show without actually knowing anything about.

Yes, I know. Have you seen Agents of SHIELD? If you have, you know it's not an Inhumans prequel at all.

I think Feige said that characters from AOS might show up in the Inhumans movie, though that might just be his vacillating self.

Even if that were the case, it's still not a prequel. Prequels come after a movie and are set in the past of the film. The Inhumans movie hasn't come out yet, so there literally cannot be a prequel to it.

[up]True. I was admittedly using the term loosely.

I am just tired of people complaining about Ao S...I mean, have you seen the first four minutes of the upcoming season? Or even the last season finale? Ao S might not be the best Superhero show in TV, but this Season finale was better than what any of them had to offer, and that includes the finale of Arrow season 1.

I also don't get what is so complicated about the concept that Ao S will introduce Inhumans, but the movie will be about the Royal family. Or why there are actually people complaining that "this is no longer Ao S, it is now the Inhumans show" even though the Secret Warriors are a Shield subplot.

Above all I am tired of people complaining about it who obviously don't even watch the show.

I don't complain about it. I just want to ignore it.
