Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I think a hypothetical Wasp movie would still be a de facto sequel to Ant-Man, just one that places more emphasis on Hope van Dyme over Scott Lang. There's no rule that says a direct sequel has to have the same title character.
The only practical difference between Ant-Man 2 and The Wasp is that Ant-Man 2 would give a bit more screentime to Scott Lang and his crew, while The Wasp would give more screentime to Hope and maybe add in an extra supporting character or two that's more relevant to her. No matter what the movie is called, they aren't going to remove Scott Lang from the story completely and Hope is going to be directly involved in the search for her mother.

Ant-Man: Flight of the Bumblewasp:: Quantum Quest::: WE'RE BRINGING BACK JAN EVERYONE also Scott is there too I guess
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAnt-Man: Flight of the Wasp (hey, it is better than "Rise of the Wasp)
Is it just me...but is it possible that Marvel has adjusted their marketing strategy? At least concerning Ao S they have kept their cards really close to their chest this time around.
x5 I haven't really noticed a lot of secrecy with Season 3 when compared to Season 2, though I admit I wasn't quite as plugged in to the Marvel news machine back then as I am now.
Civil War doesn't come out until May 2016, so I'm not expecting a trailer until November at the earliest, and I could see it come out as late as mid-December (they'll want to attach it to The Force Awakens regardless).

A dutch angle depicting Carter in a dress looking vaguely nonplussed. Not the best advertisement.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Wait, are they doing that thing Marvel does where they release individual posters of all the characters and then assemble them into a super-poster?
Because if this is just a piece of it and supposed to represent Carter herself and not the season, then I take back my criticism, it's fine.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Literally any promotional material is better than the "sometimes the best man for the job is a woman" spots ABC ran last year.
The poster is good by sheer virtue of not having "She's a secret agent and a girl? Gasp!" as the tagline.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. We already had Ant-Man. Just give us Wasp.

Something about the proportions in the Agent Carter poster look a little off. Like they airbrushed her arms too hard and now it looks like she has no elbows.

I wonder if just calling Ant-Man's sequel The Wasp might be better or worse for sales. After all a lot of people said they weren't interested in it precisely because the name "Ant-Man" sounds lame. "The Wasp" is a lot less so. On the other hand since Ant-Man did pretty well it might give the name more brand power these days, and it's not like the name helped Green Hornet, though part of it might also be because that movie just sucked.
Anyway, I agree that making the sequel about Hope and her search for her mother would probably be a more interesting story than something else Scott-centric, since as people mentioned earlier risks It's the Same, So It Sucks. If that's the route they go putting Ant-Man first and foremost in the title might be misleading on top of sending a bad signal that the execs still can't trust an action movie with a female lead to sell without the help of a man.

I fully expect both Scott and Hope to be major characters no matter what the title is or how it's marketed.
I think what could be the biggest determining factor is actually less the actual contents of the movie and more how Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel do. If one of them is a massive success, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if within a month Marvel just happens to announce the official title of the Ant-Man sequel is The Wasp.

It could be more of a sting this time around. I mean, I give Ant-man a lot of credit because usually, Heist movies follow the same pattern. It always looks like everything goes wrong and then comes the "nahnah, all part of the plan moment". But in Ant-man, the heist actually does go wrong, from start to finish, and the heroes only scrape by due to some quick thinking. Still it would be nice to see an Ant-man movie in which the plan isn't something which is hastily thrown together, but a well planned sting along the line of what Leverage pulled every week. Perhaps with a little bit of White Collar thrown in for good measure.
