Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Yeah they called Black Widow/Iron Man. That's why the Internet was crying foul. A leak from an earlier draft indicated she would be with Steve.

Ant-Man has made $400 million worldwide, excluding China.

A description of the trailer for Civil War they showed.

SPOILERS

: *Iron Man fighting both Captain America and the Winter Soldier.

  • Iron Man throwing Cap, but not seeing Bucky and then getting subsequently punched in the face.

  • This is probably a misdirection, but Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow is apparently the rumored double agent and it sounds like she doublecrosses Cap. She is shown reporting to the government, including General Ross and Tony Stark, before her showdown with Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye.

  • More of the Black Widow/Hawkeye fight; Natasha looks to be in bad shape after Clint delivers a big blow.

  • Vision fighting both Falcon & Scarlet Witch.
  • More of the scene where Ant-Man thanks Cap for letting him be a part of the team. This time, Scott apparently pulls a Peggy and touches Steve's pecs to feel how big/firm they are at some point during the conversation.

  • Daniel Brühl's Baron Zemo makes an appearance.

  • Steve and Bucky hugging it out.

And another slightly longer one.

According to other accounts it's the same clip from D23. Were there two shown at this con?

[up][up]There may have been some extra scenes. It can still generally be the same thing.

Edit: Or not? Seems like some differing accounts.

Steve and Bucky hugging it out? *sigh*....why does Marvel keep this from us? Why? Isn't it time to create some buzz instead of allowing a handful of fans to control the narrative?

Oh, that's gonna start a fight in the fandom.

I do like how Tom pointed out that while SW is powerful, Loki is a god.

Well god in MCU terms just means really strong human. Loki isn't particularly strong for an Asgardian either.

Loki is not an asguradian... It was never clearified how strong adult frost giants are but he demonstrated to withstand a beating from hulk and hold his own against thor in weapon combat. Is he at the peek of jotans? Idk

But he doesn't use his brute str to overpower everyone anyway. He's more similar to SW in that sense. However his ilusions and other tricks have nothing on wandas ability to control kenetic engery. She basically can bend physics to her will and well that's a dr strange thing

MCU Loki isn't a god, he's an alien. And we saw how well those guys fair against even human Avengers.

I'm picturing MCU Mangog as a bodybuilder in prosthetics, wearing a demonic-looking metal or stone mask (as proportionately large as Mangog's face was in the Lee/Kirby days)........It looks better in my mind than it sounds.

Why a mask? Well, there's no way THIS can be his actual face without theaters the world over getting sued into bankruptcy from at least half the audience dying of laughter. Looks more at home with the Muppets than the MCU. Make it an oversized demon mask instead. That way, it stays true to the spirit of the classic 616 design without looking ridiculous in live action.

[up]True. But the classic one looks more unique, IMO. It helps him stand out from most demonic baddies.

That design was just sad. In fact, Im now more worried than ever that Thor's Rogues Gallery is gonna get utterly squandered just so Marvel can continue to whore out Hiddleston.

Wow making him into a "No Hotlinked Images" sticker is a pretty bold stylistic choice.

Behold "Lamegog"! Born of the disappointment of a billion billion beings!

This thing looks like someone who could've been subbed in for the poor shlub who got one-shotted in the "Anyone else?" scene.
