Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Idle thought: If this was the Star Wars EU, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Playing Galaga would have a trilogy of novels detailing how his game of Galaga secretly saved the universe by now.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I don't think profile has as much to do with it (though that obviously factors into it) as the budgetary aspect. We're in an era where there's no longer as huge a stigma against movie stars doing TV shows like there once was (Jeremy Renner was on Louie recently). Most of the Avengers have powers that you really can't do on a TV budget.
So even if by some miracle you could afford to pay RDJ's salary to have Iron Man guest star, what are you actually gonna do with him? Suiting up isn't an option.

Speaking of the Stark family, if Madame Masque in season 2 in Agent Carter is any indication, I think Howard Stark is slowly turning into "Golden Age Tony" sans the armor.
With the existing ones confirmed, the only two remaining are the Time Stone and the Soul Stone. Doctor Strange might be a good place for the Soul Stone, or maybe Guardians of the Galaxy 2 if the whispers of Adam Warlock appearing are correct.
Thor: Ragnarok would probably be the only place for the Time Stone to appear. Perhaps the movie opens with Asgard already destroyed and Thor gets his hands on the Time Stone and uses it to try to prevent Asgard's destruction.

Tesseract: Space. Asgard's vault. Basically in Loki's possession.
Aether: Reality. Being held by the Collector.
Gonna call it Orb because it needs a name: Power. Held on Xandar by the Nova Corp.
Damnit... Staff Gem Thing: Mind. Vision's forehead. Possibly would be safer in a safety deposit box.
Soul: ???
Time: ???
Infinity Gauntlet 1: Asgard vault.
Infinity Gauntlet 2: Thanos' fist.
Can we get spiffing names for the Mind and Power stones?

Forever liveblogging the AvengersGiven that they've made several items into Composite Characters, maybe the Time Stone could be something in Doctor Strange.
I hope, actually, that the Time Stone isn't in Thor: Ragnarok. Ragnarok should really be just the best of Walter Simonson's run - perhaps Thor in Hel, perhaps Surtur, perhaps Beta Ray Bill - and perhaps even a scene where Jane Foster holds Mjolnir.
The Time Stone, I think, would fit better in Captain Marvel (where it would power the Psyche-Magnitron).
Preferably the Soul Gem. I don't want Thanos to be revealed to have had the Time Gem all this time on grounds that it makes the victories the Avengers have had over the course of the entire series sorta pointless if he's always had the ability to just reverse time, go back to Avengers 1, and not give Loki the staff.
If Thanos is in possession of the Time Gem, there's no reason for his efforts to have failed up to this point. He can just Save Scum until he wins.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Speaking of Ant-Man, the latest interview with Olsen suggests that they might take an Avengers Disassembled approach with her character, and I don't like that, not after the previous movie already did pretty OK with rehabilitating her character.

That's fair. Jason Alexander pining for Thor's love would surprise me.
