Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Why do you make multiple posts in a row when you have an edit button right there. I could understand if it were hours apart and you wanted to bump the thread, but there's only a minutes difference.

[up][up][up][up] I don't think that's Matt Murdock's apartment.

Why not? The window looks the same, and the surrounding area seems familiar too.

Windows looking the same just means that they might be reusing the same windows on a different set. Or they are in the same vicinity as where they shot Matt Murdock's apartment. Or they liked the look of those windows, so they are reusing them.

But there's no proof at all that it actually is Matt Murdock's apartment.

There's no proof that it isn't Matt Murdock's apartment either. Charlie Cox could possibly, maybe, make a surprise cameo in Jessica Jones. Who knows?

[up] You also can't prove that there isn't a teapot somewhere between Earth and Mars that's orbiting the sun, but it's highly unlikely. Odds are they would have announced a cameo by Charlie Cox, just like they announced Rosario Dawson would be on the show.

So the burden of proof is clearly on you.

Would you stop being such a buzzkill? I'm just trying to come up with some fun predictions for the show.

For fuck's sake.

There's a difference between "predicting things" and "making things up." If you said, "I think Matt Murdock will show up," I might disagree with you, but I would be fine with that, but you didn't.

That's what I've been doing the whole time though? I don't understand why you're being so anal about this. I've been speculating that Matt Murdock might show up, seeing as how one of the rooms Jessica Jones is standing in looks similar to Matt Murdock's apartment.

Again, what the hell??

No, you wrote "This picture is Matt Murdock's apartment." That is a statement of fact of which there is no proof. And then you said, "There's no proof that it isn't Matt Murdock's apartment either," which is just stupid. The burden of proof is on you to back up your claim.

I mean, I can claim that's Doctor Strange's apartment and you can't prove me wrong, now can you? So clearly that's Doctor Strange's apartment.

Honestly, the fact that both Jessica Jones and Daredevil take place in and around Hell's Kitchen, New York, should be enough for most people to predict that Matt Murdock might show up as a cameo. But I can see you're intent on just being a jerk today, so I'm dropping the subject.

You stated something of which there is no proof and I called you out. That's being a jerk?

You're being a little unnecessarily aggressive towards a not particularly serious post.

Gotta be honest, I think it's actually Thanos's apartment.

The spacey area we see Loki and Ronan talking to him in was just from his ceiling projector.

Well, in higherbrainpattern's defense, he may be onto something with a surprise cameo.

After all, how many of us expected to see Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in the second episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. when we saw it the first time?

Second episode? Debatable. At all? Everyone. Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury was the most likely candidate to show up in a guest role at all given the actor's absolute love of the character and the way he's the best fit to make an appearance. He'd probably be the main character if they could afford him and he had the time.

Jaimie Alexander as Sif, on the other hand, was quite a surprise.

Now, Jason Alexander as Sif would have been even more surprising.

No, it wouldn't, we'd just write it off as yet another straight, white guy stealing a role from other demographics.

A straight, white guy stealing a spotlight from women and/or minorities? No, that wouldn't be surprising at all.
