Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

When you consider who the characters are it's like comparing apples and oranges. For whatever it's worth as an Asian person I'm fine with them leaving it where they did.
As for Mordo I hope the lack of Johnny Shitstorm is a sign that maybe audiences have learned to grow up a little. Though I still saw a handful of people complaining about it being racist because it came on the heels of the Tilda Swinton news or because they thought Strange was whitewashed (which is based on its own racist logic* ).

RE comments from last page- Good point. In a couple of years Yeun will be way too old and probably is right now- it would definitely be a case of Playing Gertrude for Claudia Kim.
Ki Hong Lee is a good suggestion though. Although he's only a couple of years younger than Yeung he looks a fair amount younger- It would be Dawson Casting, but I think he could probably pass as an older (18-19) teen.
As per the current All-new Marvel comics, he'll be the next Hulk.
Which is kind of weird, because he doesn't really have the associated angst, does he? It's a curious choice.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI suppose. It's quite a jump though.
Eh, this is what we end up talking about in the absence of a Civil War trailer WHERE EVEN THE HELL IS IT sorry.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectSince Mantis will be in Guardians 2, I'm wondering if they'll be loyal to the source material and go the "Celestial Madonna" route with her or scrap it out of concern that her being a glorified uterus (by a religion no less) may not go over well with a large portion of the audience.
"As for Thanos getting up, he was clearly pretty fucking happy about it, like for the first time, there was something worth getting up over."
That leads to an interesting question. Will this Thanos be much like the death-infatuated Titan we know from 616, or will his motives strongly differ this time. Maybe in this continuity, being a nigh invincible un-aging being who's succeeded in just about every amazing thing you can imagine, he's grown jaded as a result and is now wondering if he should just end the universe with the Infinity Gauntlet (driven by curiosity instead of love for an abstract concept). But the Avengers (and probably the Guardians too) have recently piqued his interested. Now, he relishes the idea of having one last good time by fighting an opponent who has a chance of actually killing him. Whether he wins or loses doesn't matter to him, so long as it's interesting.
OR he could be a bit closer to 616 in that he wonders if there's "higher beings" beyond the veil of the known universe, and intends to use the Gauntlet to find out for himself (the destruction of the universe he thinks is a necessary step in order to do so).

I think mixed lineage is the best bet they've got here.
