Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Infinity War - Banner returns in good spirits and forgives Natasha after sitting on a plane and reflecting all the while everyone else's character arcs were going on.
Yes, those were his exact words.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I figure that he's going to be making preperations for what will be Infinity War.
In the comics he's not just an unpretty face and space abs. He generally has a pretty extensive plan for how to do.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI don't know...if I were Thanos, I would simply keep an eye on earth but search for the other stones first. Because apparently earth is a prime place for them to turn up, which might be because there always has been more than one stone in the nice realms, meaning that they are most likely closer together than the others. And aren't the stones drawn to each other?
Random prediction (and I guess hope)- I think Amadeus Cho will be coming to the MCU.
Basically, it's the combination of having Helen Cho (who hopefully will live, unlike her comic counterpart) and the fact that Amadeus is getting a new series.
As a comparison, note how Nick Spencer's Ant Man is tonally similar to the film (even though it keeps the continuity of the comics) and is written so that someone who has only seem the movie can follow it.
Similarly, I see in the Marvel comics thread that Patsy/Trish Walker, who is appearing on Jessica Jones is getting her own series.
I would suggest Steven Yeun for Amadeus.

Helen's inclusion and that one line in Winter Soldier point to him having some kind of role in a future movie. I'm kind of curious what they'll use him for though. We already have a ton of scientists in the MCU. Pretty much every major franchise has someone that's already established.
Isn't Yeun too old?

I predicted that but largely because A) East Asia has become a huge moneymaker and B) Marvel has an embarrassingly small pool of Asian characters overall, which is made much smaller by not having the X-Men.
The fact that they seem to be trying to up his profile outside of comics (he was in that Black Widow animated movie and the Spider-Man cartoon) makes me think you're onto something.
How old is Helen supposed to be? Maybe they'll make him her nephew this time around, and age him up.
As for who to play him, Ki Hong Lee might be a contender between Kimmy Schmidt and The Maze Runner boosting his profile. Plus he'll bring in fangirl dollars.

Hey, Cassie Lang is pretty young in this universe, so a younger Amadeus isn't out of the question. Set up for Young Avengers.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectThe issue of Asian representation in the MCU is a pretty big pickle. There really aren't a whole lot of non X-Men characters capable of being film leads aside from Colleen Wing, Shang-Chi, Jimmy Woo, Nico from Runaways, Silk* or Mantis. The rest are either extremely bit characters, nonpowered, or really stereotypical. In some cases they can be boosted into major supporting cast or Ensemble Dark Horse status but turning them into leads by giving them the GOTG/Ant-Man treatment won't work.
Marvel has a few options: relying on Canon Foreigners* , pushing new Asian heroes into their comics so by the time they're finished* , or Race Lift* . I'm not a fan of the last option in principle (look at what happened to New 52 Wally West) but it's probably the most tenable at this point, and it worked well in the case of Skye in Agents of SHIELD. One way to work it in without being jarring is to cast mixed-race actresses or do it with some of the more ambiguous looking characters, like Kate Bishop or Jessica Drew.

The last thing is what I'm hoping they will do with Danny Rand. Casting an Asian or half-Asian actor would go a long way to getting rid of the Mighty Whitey trope that's part of Iron Fist.
As observed elsewhere, Iron Fist has a terrible situation in that making him white means he's a Mighty Whitey, making him Asian plays into All Asians Know Kung Fu. The suggested solution is to make him another race (like latino or black), or split the difference and make him mixed lineage.

...
I'm going to end this here because I think Coulson won. I honestly can't think of anywhere further to go with that.
