Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Stephen Rider will be playing
Blake Tower
in Season 2 of Daredevil.
It sounds like Season 2 will have a greater focus on Matt's legal career.
i thought this was interesting.
"The issue faced by the heroes is whether the heroes should be registered and controlled by the government. The reason for the registration is that super powered individuals can cause huge amounts of destruction and death. Registration would allow the government to track, control and if necessary contain/ imprison powered individuals who represent a risk. This side believes that registration can save countless lives and potentially even the world from powered individuals.
This group is led by Iron Man.
In contrast to the side of Order, the side of Freedom believes it is wrong to prejudge any person and limit their freedom before they have committed a crime. To the side of Freedom this is overstepping the bounds of the social contract a country has with its people. The registration act creates a negative precedent that could be used to condemn anyone without due process of law.
This group is led by Captain America.
What I do find interesting is that typically people have a knee jerk reaction to side with Captain America but many people I find are in real life are more on Tony's side. The idea of having Government step in to solve problems by just bending individual rights here or there is very tempting and shows up again and again all over the place.
Which sides will each hero be on? There have been some early reports that have placed a bunch heroes on one side or the other. The below is how the heroes will supposedly initially start out. However, do not be surprised if some switch sides. In particular, I could see Spider-Man switching sides especially after the extra scene in Ant-Man."

@Cap being underpowered in Civil War.
Against Iron Man and War Machine, at least, I could see Scott being an ace in the whole. Not so much against Vision, who doesn't have so many obviously open parts in his design.
In any case, I'm not getting the feeling that this Civil War will really be an all out war and fight between the two sides, as in the comics. There will be a big battle scene, certainly, but it seems more like Cap is trying to get something done, needs a team to get it done, and Tony has to hunt him down because what Cap needs to do is against whatever "the accords" entail. So Tony's side having the power advantage makes a lot of sense.
It's basically like the A-Team. If going up against everyone hunting them the team would be shot down in seconds, so they have to find ways to avoid that sort of thing or think their way out of those situations. It's not about being able to overpower their enemies, it's about making sure they can't stop them from doing what's right.

It is very likely that I would fall more on Caps side when it comes to the registration issue...it's a cultural matter. Registration can so easily misused. Plus, the notion that registration protects people is kind of ridiculous. If a superhero starts to misuse his power, it doesn't matter if he is registered somewhere, and to take him down, you would most likely need another superhero either way.
so this is kinda redundant to what i just found and posted > http://toylab.blogspot.com/
but w/e. yea not surprising there is no SHRA or fight over secret identities... he has to clarify its not like the comics

Don't we already know from Word of God that the concept of the act and what IM is enforcing won't necessarily be the same as it was in the comics?
That's... interesting. Season 1 Matt typically felt like he didn't give a rats ass about being a lawyer and only used it to scope out new people to help. And the court scenes often made me wince.
I hope they plan to improve it next season.
it is the SHR trope. played straight idk. is it called SHRA? nope word of god never said that but i believe its acardoro or w/e like devin and steve rogers said. i havent heard the words SHRA in any interview either. if tony is the first one to jump on it i guess it makes sense because he repeatedly demonstrated his inability to actually improve the world through his technology. it inevitably falls into the hands of people who will use it for malevolent purposes or he just ends up creating another Ultron. At this point in time he WANTS checks and balances.
Que
Goverment: Joiiiiiiiiiiiin me mr Stark.
Iron Man: Okay I give in. I tried it my way and it sucked dude
yep
so CA:CW uses CW's concept, hold S Hs accountable, but without becoming anything like it? yet can get across a similar point.

In a unprecedented move for the american judicial system, season 2 will have a case with two defendants and two defense attorneys battling each other to prove their respective client's innocence and one another's clients guilt.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."
Same here. I actually think MST3K sums up the original comic best: 'We hope you enjoyed... no moral theater.'

Exactly. So it really grinds my gears when I see people getting upset because the movie isn't enough like the comics, when I have to point out to them that it was never intended to be, that they're getting hyped over unrealistic expectations, and even if it was truer to the comics that would result in a worse movie.

The film is going to make at least a billion, budget shouldn't really be much of an issue.
