Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Maybe Perlmutter is our universe's Mad Jim Jaspers.

I'd rather see Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne in an asshole contest.

Yay! I'd like her to get her own series down the line with Colleen Wing but this is fine too.

I'd love to see the Heroes for Hire adapted to a tv series. They can also feature cameos from Moon Knight, White Tiger, Black Cat etc.

Remind me, is Misty Knight married to Iron Fist? The name is familiar.

[up][up] Maybe Danny will pop up in Luke Cage, and at the end they'll go off together so she can be in Iron Fist

Anyway, yes, I was hoping she'd show up. Think she'll have the bionic arm?

Oh God! Natural light!

Yeah, I was thinking Iron Fist may appear in Luke Cage's show the same way he's appearing in Jessica Jones before getting his own show. Perhaps introduce him as Misty's boyfriend or something. tongue

He just may be. Let me know if he builds an omnicidal robot, then we'll know for sure

YES THANK YOU.

Why, yes, Misty Knight is one of my favorite Marvel characters. She's awesome.

Also, yes, I do hope they introduce Danny Rand in Luke Cage, too, even if just as a cameo. And I hope that Jessica Jones guest-stars in Daredevil Season 2 (hey, lawyers need to employ private investigators every once in a while). More interconnectiveness! MORE I SAY.

Also give her a bionic arm. Director Coulson is already getting one.

The MCU have a running theme of people losing their arms. I am betting she will start with both arms and then lose one at some point (season 2 to keep the theme?).

I think it was just a Phase 2 thing inspired by Star Wars. Not sure if Phase 3 will do something like that.

I dunno.

Maybe it's all setting up for how they'll defeat Thanos in Infinity War, by lopping the gauntlet off along with his hand? tongue

That is how Buffy defeated Gwendolyn Post in that one episode of Buffy.

No source, no official announcement from Marvel, and the link leads to a site known for reporting baseless rumors. Seems legit.

Well, they included it in Season 2 of Agents of SHIELD. It is not like the TV stuff are actually part of the MCU "phases". I mean, I suppose the series that air next year are Phase 3? But the 3 netflix series are part of the same "bundle", so it would be weird if Daredevil and Jessica Jones were "Phase 2" while the other two were "Phase 3". In reality, none of them are neither.

Huh? The source is Deadline, a site known for getting scoops.

[up][up] Perhaps, but I know of them as "the site that broke the news that Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to play Doctor Strange", which, as far as I know, hasn't been confirmed by Marvel or Phoenix as ever happening (the latter never said anything about it save from that he doesn't do "blockbuster roles").

But there's a difference betwen "So-and-So is in talks" and "So-and-So has been cast." One is rumor. The other is easily verifiable by asking Marvel. And Marvel, so far, hasn't denied it yet. (There's also a difference between Joaquin Phoenix - a super well known actor - and Simone Missick, whose largest role as been on Ray Donovan. Sites may try to make up rumors about big celebrities, but rarely if ever do so for smaller actors.)

Are you referring to this interview with Phoenix? He doesn't confirm that he got approached for Dr. Strange but he doesn't deny it either.
