Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

MCU really needs to do a subliminal Take That! against Quesada's bullshit.
Anyone remember Avengers?
Does Tony mention anything about powering his tower with the arc reactor being a proof of concept for selling the arc reactor as green energy?
I had thought so but my memory is bad.

To be fair, Quesada tends to get the blame a lot for the bad things during his run as EIC, but not for the good things. He pretty much revitalized Marvel by hiring more indie writers and artists — he got Brian Michael Bendis to make both Daredevil and the Avengers into best-selling books, got Grant Morrison to make the New X-Men, and so on.
The only thing people tend to remember, however, is "One More Day."

On the subject of reimaginings, I was thinking about a few for yet-to-be-introduced characters in the MCU.
For instance, if Mad Jim Jaspers (played by Steve Buscemi or someone) was an avatar of the Reality Gem, would that sit well with most fans? I mean, the Mind Gem was hinted to have a will of its own, so that would provide foreshadowing.

So that tumblr post that we both know about was even more full of bullshit?
Grand.

Bullet trains powered by repulsor tech would be a good start. No more flying death fortresses please.
On that note Death Battle did mention Tony in one storyline wanted to see what was in the Earth's core, so he launched a nuke down towards it....

What post are you talking about? I've seen several Ron the Death Eater ones accusing of Tony being a charismatic propaganda vehicle for neoconservatism and white imperialism, although I thought the message of the movies was to be against that sort of thing, if half-heartedly.
The Reality Gem was already introduced as the Aether, so I don't think they're going to bring it back as Jaspers.
I don't think we'll be seeing Jaspers at all, actually. Aside from being mainly a Captain Britain villain, who doesn't have any plans at the moment, he's rather absurdly powerful. The only thing to ever really stand a chance against him was a reality-warping android he himself had created, and only by eventually dragging him outside of reality where he was powerless.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! There's been more and more Tony hate online lately, especially on tumblr. Which I kind of get, since Civil War is happening, but half of those posts seem to be demonizing him for no good reason.

I find it kinda funny how besides their eponymous properties, all four gems introduced so far also can fire generic energy blasts.
HYDRA harnessed the Space Gem to create glowy blue ray guns, Malekith uses the Reality Gem at one point to fire out a barrage of reddish beams, Ronan fire rays from and is later lasered to death by the Power Gem, and Vision can fire yellow beams from his forehead (And back in Avengers 1, Loki shoots energy blasts from the scepter).
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!@Alley Oop, it's no big deal, someone was writing a list of things Bruce Wayne has done versus what Tony Stark has done, framing the latter as an uncharitable self-serving Dick that doesn't use his money and tech for the greater good while apparently Bruce Wayne always does.
However their example choices made it clear that they were using all Pre-Nolan Batman media for examples for Bruce while only using the MCU for Tony.
The Blog The ArtI don't think so. The problem with Man of Steel was not that they veered away from the comics canon, but that they tried way too hard to make superman appeal to modern kids by making him needlessly angsty and gritty. And that said grit and angst was not well executed. The shit people complained about not being in the comics like Perry being black or the costume not having Underwear of Power were small peanuts compared to what was actually wrong with the movie.
IMO the major thing that stuck out in the report was the insistence of the committee on "save the cat" elements, which seemed particularly striking to me in Ant-Man.

But he makes good quesadillas.
So good you'll sell your marriage to the devil for them.
