Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Team Carter FOREVER!

Very different circumstances.
Coulson was a long-running character, immensely popular with the fanbase, was unjustly murdered, and the permanency of his death was openly called into question in the very movie he died in.
Pietro was a new character, had very little characterization, died in a Heroic Sacrifice, and was given a lasting legacy when Hawyeke chose his son's middle name in his honor.
Quicksilver isn't coming back.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. There is more douchebaggery to get out of him.
I demand a spin off where Quicksilver and Hawkeye are stuck in a room together while Black Widow and Darcy have to find and defuse a bomb thats going to explode freedom.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI was under the impression that freedom bombs tend to kill people regardless.
Oh God! Natural light!Theo Rossi
from Sons Of Anarchy will be in Luke Cage. And they confirm Rosario Dawson is returning as Claire Temple.
Now this could be interesting
. I'm a little worried about the movies having Protection from Editors but if this is true and that's all they've been doing then good riddance.
I'm not sure if it's protection from the editors. It sounds like the issue was since they had a background in comics and were very familiar with the source material, they were something of a drag on the creative side. Which can absolutely be the case because as message boards can attest, people sometimes come up with terrible ideas in the name of "sticking to the comics", while vice versa, they veto perfectly good ones on the grounds that it's too different from the source material.
Also of note, the site claims Perlmutter is to blame for the infamous marketing debacle involving Black Widow, as he apparently vetoed a lot of potential merchandise on the grounds that girls wouldn't buy it.
I have a hard time to believe that one guy could make such a decision alone, but then, who knows what the power structures looked like.
For a moment I was worried because it sounded as if Feige is now making all decisions alone, but apparently there is still a team, they just got rid of the comic writers? Well, we will see how this works out. Creative freedom is certainly a good thing but hopefully the directors and writers are still asking for input from time to time.
After all, Marvel created two outstanding movies in 2014....question is if they worked because or despite the system in place.
While change makes me a little bit nervous, I think it is kind of a good thing that they are not getting complacent and do shake things up a little bit. This, more than anything, will hopefully keep the movies fresh.
Though I hope that they will do from time to time brainstorming sessions with the creative at Marvel.

Phhhffffff
Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.
