Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Yay, low quality GI Fs!

At this point, I'll take what I can get. I'm jonesing.

Oh, hey, that airport GIF where they're running has Wanda, and split second Black Panther.

[up]Bad things are about to happen, I reckon.

Heh, the text on the bottom is just the Chinese character for 'black' repeated ad nauseum and then a word I don't recognize.

I also just noticed that Scarlet Witch is definitely Team Cap while Sharon Carter is nowhere in sight. Did the marketing people really fuck up or was there some miscommunication?

Or maybe that wasn't the final final art.

Looking at the running shot again, I see six people in total on Team Cap. I have no idea who the one behind Hawkeye is.

They're just going to run into each other and collapse in a heap.

Eh well, Disney's lawyers are swift and merciless. It does mean some footage made it into the wild though.

Well actually, CBM still has 'em. And quite a few more too. There's a still of BP.

Better be quick if you want 'em.

It is not much, but hopefully it will prompt Marvel to finally release something. I know that the movie won't be out until next year, but DC has advertising for their movie since Comic Con. It is time for Marvel to at least release a date for the footage to appear.

So I just rewatched Iron Man and Thor because nothing to do at Job Corps and a friend of mine had them, and I never really realized how much Agent Coulson was actually there. My firs few viewings he as a character never really dawned on me properly, but he was there more than I realized and it's really no wonder he was chosen to be the breakout character for The Avengers and beyond, I'm just wondering why I never reag properly noticed or remembered him before.

Like, I knew he was there but I had t a clue how much he was actually there.

Also, Thor? Eh, it's passable, I've given it too much flak the further I've been away from my previous viewing of it. I still wish the series was more Asgard stuff because that's where the movies are most interesting and the sequels should have been "Thor's ongoing Adventures with Lady Sif and the Warrioirs Three". They got less characterization then Jane and her crew but I was more interested in having more stories with them and having them develop and be better characterized.

Stellen Skarsgard and Kat Dennings are great, they're just not who I'd want in a Thor film. I wish they were someone else's supporting cast so I could still have them without bogging up Thor movies.

[up]Exactly my sentiment...as a general rule, Loki's story is always the more interesting one in the Thor movies.

Because Coulson is the true agent of Shiled: you dont see him until he let youcool

And About Thor...well the first one NEED to be on earth, otherwise we just have some weird space-fantasy film, but the second one could have a least the final battle take place in other realm, that would be could

The Dark World should have started out with the bifrost repaired and Thor inviting Jane to Asgard, so that we could explore Asgard through her eyes. And yes, there was really no point in setting the final battle on earth.

i didn't even know who coulson was when i was watching the avengers or why i was supposed to really care about him lol

i've said this before but i thought thor was really mediocre. Loki was great, everything else was very underwhelming.

Midgard center of the realms blah blah blah.

Setting that kind of thing on earth is practically a requirement of the mythos.

I admit, I didn't really recognize Coulson either, but after he geeked out over Cap, he totally won my heart. Loki is basically killing our inner fanboy in that movie.

Black Panther!

Yeah the footage I posted a few weeks were bonafide. score. well I except a trailer either during AOS or Star Wars. marvel has so much out now theres no need to be in a rush. and they can always host their own event with Disney to attract all our attention or just keep on releasing new info.
