Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

That guy
Saying it isn't fair to equate autism with being a Basement Dweller is hardly being an SJW. It's not like anyone's saying "fuck you I hope you get doxxed for being a problematic asshole" or "you are a bad person", just "don't say these things because they have Unfortunate Implications". And if anyone (not directing this at any specific person in particular) has a problem with basic politeness then I have to wonder if maybe they're the one who has a problem being oversensitive and easily offended.
Also, I could've taken the anti-SJW route and accuse you of being a misandrist for referring to Marvel and Fox as "brothers" specifically when Basement Dweller is so heavily associated with maleness (and it really is an unfortunate stereotype), but I purposefully didn't because that would be a level of petty I'm not willing to indulge in.

We are giving Hextar Vigar a little vacation.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
The problem wasn't their initial statement which really wasn't that bad but their response to the response.
Back to Carol, I wonder if as a member of the air force they're going to keep her relationship with Rhodey. I always thought it was a bit Strangled by the Red String in the comics, but they obviously have more room here to tweak around with that since they have more time to plan things ahead and the two characters have some shared common background as members of the air force before becoming heroes. Although I think there are rules against that kind of relationship IRL. At the same time since Rhodey is now a (possibly full time) member of the Avengers that may not be a problem anymore.

It's also possible that Moondragon may have experienced what happened with comics!Drax. Her physical body may have died, but her essence was transported into an all-powerful new body as a weapon against Thanos. Might even invert Arthur Douglas's fate by having her new vessel be a human body, though most likely not because humans are squishy and Gunn said he wanted Peter Quill to be he only human.
How stoked would people be if Quill's father was played by none other than William Shatner?
Given that we never saw exactly how they died, it's entirely possible that Moondragon (or rather, the character might become Moondragon) isn't as dead as everyone thought. Speaking of which, think Lee Pace would be up for a cameo in a flashback?
On the subject of Peter's dad, I think it's Thanos' brother...Eros, I think? He was in the original Infinity Gauntlet story - Thanos took him captive so that he could gloat while he slaughtered everyone, basically.

Oh God! Natural light!I've seen people make a semi-convincing case that his father could be Loki of all people. It would be an interesting way to make that foreshadowing amount to something of value among non-comic readers, add an interesting element to him, and maybe justify his continued presence in the MCU beyond Thor 3 and Infinity War.
A lot of Thorki shippers who Marvel is surely aware of by now would probably get really mad in the process though. I'd expect some uproar about gay erasure, as tends to happen when Fan Preferred Couples get torpedoed, even though there's never been any indication aside from Shipping Goggles that indicates Loki is of any particular sexual orientation at all in the first place. I've already seen people accuse Whedon of being a homophobe for erasing Steve Rogers' as of yet unconfirmed bisexuality in Age of Ultron, which as a big proponent for canon Steve/Bucky I still find pretty silly.

I don't think any significant number of people - or any remotely reasonable person - is going to get mad at Marvel or claim "erasure" over them not writing twincest. For goodness' sakes.
I can see people disliking such a development due to thinking that Loki is already overexposed, and while I don't think Loki's role thus far has been excessively prominent, trying to tie him into the Guardians storyline would be overmuch. The Guardians story is supposed to expand the Marvel Universe, make us realize that there's a lot out there beyond Earth and Asgard. Tying the main character right back to Asgard reduces the scope.

The key problem I see in it being Loki is that I believe the Nova Prime said that Peter Quill's non-human half was something they've never seen before. And while the Asgardians seem to be somewhat apart from the rest of the cosmic universe, the stinger of Thor 2 establishes that their is lines of travel between them.
I still think it's Eros or Starfox if you prefer.

I will likely be PROVEN WRONG, but the idea has an interesting swing to it.

Huh? How was Steve's bisexuality erased on Age of Ultron? He doesn't have any love interest in the movie! What part of the movie "erased" the fanon bisexuality?
I see Peter's father being Starfox played by Nathan Fillon- but whoever he is played by, I see it as being someone who doesn't look much older than Pratt.
I just think it works because Eros/Starfox is like a more assholeish version of the way Peter acts in the films. And I want to see Peter mimicking Thanos and saying, "Peter, I Am Your Uncle".

I'd be against Loki being Star Lord's dad not because of Loki himself (I don't buy the "Loki is overexposed" complaint), but because the MCU has a noticeable "all roads lead to Asgard" thing going on that they've been getting away from recently, and which I'd like them to continue getting away from for variety's sake.
Loki having tons of kids should totally be a thing, though. It'd let them do that storyline where he and Spidey team up (only half joking on that one
)
