Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I kind of wonder how stable the sides are going to be in Civil War.
I think it's very likely at least one person will switch over at a key moment, or reveal themselves to have been on the other side all along (Black Widow is the obvious choice here, but they might do something less obvious). But I could see things get a lot more jumbled to the point where there's only one or two characters Captain America and Iron Man can trust apiece by the climax of the movie.
The fact that they need to be on strictly delineated "teams" actively fighting against each other, and even needing the existence of a "double agent" in the first place, doesn't sit well with me. Seems too "toyetic" for lack of a better word.
I'd prefer it if it's an ideological divide that mostly bears out in fights of the verbal kind instead of big explosions and punchouts. No Might Makes Right please. Each hero's personal stance would place them closer to one side of a "spectrum" with Tony and Cap at each end, and loose "alliances" built on common philosophical ground, but with individuals shifting left or right and moving over to other alliances as events unfold. However that's kind of complicated for a single movie and I could see that causing the AOU problem without perfect micromanagement.

Well, I see it as teams in the sense that Steve and Sam are clearly doing what they think is best, which is clearly on the 'wrong' side of whatever this accord thing is, and clearly there's going to be friction.
The ideological divide seems more between Steve and Tony, not necessarily everyone else.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectSo far, it's looking more and more like instead of being an all-out "war" like in the comics, Cap and Sam will be forced to do some stuff (in both helping Bucky and in stopping Zemo) that will put them on the wrong side of the law given the new restrictions, and Iron Man and company will be forced to take them down.
Various heroes will either throw their support behind Cap or help Tony bring them in, but instead of being sides and battle lines and having an all out conflict it will be more of a fugitive situation - with Cap ignoring the law more and more to do what he feels is right. It's by far the best way to keep the "Civil War" angle more of a setting element while keeping focus on Cap, Sam and Bucky's story (and/or Zemo), which is what they've been claiming is going to be the case.
It would also work well with Cap turning himself in at the end.

The way the actors have been describing it, they're not going to be hatin' on each other that hard.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectGood. They were all way too quick to be at each-other's throats in the original, and we all know it.
One Strip! One Strip! That particular aspect of their relationship has always popped up when they're on screen. Theirs is probably the most clearly drawn interpersonal conflict in the MCU, and why Civil War can work now.
They occasionally get along, but it'll always be tense.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectThere's something funny about one of their last conversations after such a tense time being an ego-saving discussion about how robots don't count damnit.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's Spider-Man. He looks like Spider-Man. I hope you weren't expecting anything more earth-shattering than Spider-Man because, well, it's Spider-Man.
That Spider-Man very closely resembles Spider-Man should come as no surprise.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.

He also says he'd love to appear in an episode of Agents of SHIELD, but nobody has reached out to him.
