Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I don't even watch Doctor Who and I still want this to happen so badly.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I am generally against Names being cast as the Doctor—like, as good as Capaldi is, it still kinda ticks me off how much I knew what to expect from him—but Atwell being the Doctor would basically just be her playing her Twitter self, I feel like, and I'd pay good money for that.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.WHAT MUKORA SAID:
HALEY ATWELL DOCTOR WHO! HALEY ATWELL DOCTOR WHO! GOOBLE GOBBLE GOOBLE GOBBLE! HALEY ATWELL DOCTOR WHO!
Hmmm, you know, I never thought of that, haven't heard a thing about Tennant being a Purple Man and he's usually pretty big in the con circuit, isn't he? As well as a giant nerd?
The Blog The ArtI hope Hayley being the greatest doctor wouldn't come at the expense of prematurely ending Agent Carter, but there's plenty of time I bet.

To be honest Tennant's character has ONLY been called Kilgrave by actual Marvel sources so far hasn't he? They've dropped the 'Purple Man' I.D. and he's just going be a Caucasian dude with creepy mind control powers or whatever. I don't care either way, Tennant is going to kill it as an actually totally bad man - the 10th Doctor had dark moments but was always TREATED as heroic (except for Waters of Mars, maybe) so him going all out evil is going to be epic...
... And all the fangirls giving a mind-controlling, sociopathic murderous rapist the whole D.I.L.P treatment will inevitably happen and inevitably suck but c'est la vie.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Of course he's only been called Kilgrave by official sources.
They want him to be threatening. It's hard to take the name "Purple Man" seriously.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Unless David Tennant's playing a Blaxploitation villain, I don't think that would work.
Only in the holiday special. "Sweet! Christmas!"
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. And now I want to see David Tenant play an actual Blaxploitation villain, or at least a Blaxploitation character. "I'm the motherf'ing Doctor, you f'ing punks! If your scrawny asses don't jive it; if you niggers wanna' take it to a higher motherf'ing authority... there isn't one. It ends with me! Now get your black asses out of here, ya' turkeys! Sweet f'ing Christmas..."

Agent Carter and Dr. Who are both pretty short shows, so it is possible to do both as long as the schedules don't overlap. And if they cast her, I would finally relent and watch Dr. Who even though I would be most likely totally lost.
Concerning the introduction of new character in Civil war: It is pretty clear that Black Panther is supposed to have a key role in a story, one which the Wasp can't have because there is no reason why her opinion should matter to anyone in Civil war. She is not the one who has access to vibranium. And Spider-man has been there because they want to give the character a push before his stand-alone fan in order to work against the downward trend the Spider-man franchise is stuck in. He doesn't really fit into Dr. Strange or Got G. Plus, he will most likely only have a cameo. A cameo for Wasp doesn't really make sense, because we already know the character.
I also don't think that it is Scott's shrinking ability which are the deciding factor for his role in Civil war, but his abilities as burglar and engineer. His job will likely be to free Bucky from the trap he is stuck in.
I am just thinking it's not just the very silly 'Purple Man' name that will be going, it's everything purple. Won't have purple skin, ever, won't even wear purple. Just always be Kilgrave a totally normal looking guy. The only nod I can see them possibly adding is somehow there is some sort of purpleness when he uses his powers (his eyes or his victims or something.)
I am actually pretty interested to see how Jessica Jones (the whole series not just the character) actually works, Daredevil is stuffed full of Charles Atlas powers but actual genuine super powers on the small screen is new territory for Marvel I believe. And how nuts they actually go with some of Iron Fist's kung fu (which occasionally borders on basically magic in the comics) will probably depend on how their budget/SFX crew handle this show.

Actually, set photos show him in a purple suit. http://www.flickeringmyth.com/2015/04/first-look-at-david-tennant-as-the-purple-man-in-marvels-a-k-a-jessica-jones.html
I think he pulls it off.
