Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Eh, I'm sure we'll get like a million trailers in the run up.
They're not exactly shy about revealing things, but only on their schedule.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project
We will see how much they reveal this time around. I personally think that the Falcon was originally supposed to be a big surprise in Ant-man, but someone in the marketing chickened out and felt that the movie needed the push the presence of an Avenger provided. And even then nobody had any idea how the meet would happen.
You never know, maybe with a guaranteed success like this one they won't feel the need to try so hard.
Then again, I've always thought that the fear of spoiling 'the whole movie' through trailers has always been slightly overblown.

So there were people who knew about the big HYDRA-related Reveal before The Winter Soldier came out?
Or that the Mandarin (Ooh, can o' worms) was not who we thought he was?
We like to exaggerate a bit, but most trailers are not in fact made by the same people who made the ones for Terminator Genisys or Cast Away.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectSince we are talking about villains again...I have started to think of good rendition of Comic book villains on the big screen, but I have come up curiously short.
I mean, Batman has a really memorable rogues gallery, but with the notable exception of the Joker who works more or less in ever variation, the other villains tend to fall short on the big screen. In fact, for some of them the rendition in the 1960s Batman series is still the best Lieve action version of them. OR does anyone really like the movie version of the The Riddler, Mr. Freeze or Poison Ivy? The Penguin was mostly weird and Raz a Guhl was for some reason not magical at all.
I guess Zod got a fairly memorable adaptation in the original Superman, but does anyone truly think that Lex Luther was a good take on the characters?
The whole X-Men series has exactly one good villain and that's Magneto, well, an you can perhaps count Mystique as outstanding henchwoman, but I can't even remember who the other villains in the movie were.
I remember how much criticism the Movie versions of the Green Goblin got, even for the original series, despite so many people being nostalgic about them.
And don't get me started on the various way to ruin Dr. Doom
All in all...I think the list of outstanding movie villains in comic book movie is embarrassingly short. So why do we expect Marvel to knock it out of the park every single movie?
theres this notion nobody at the MCU knows how to write a "proper" rouge in contrast to the competition. its the number #1 rant alongside these are just Saturday morning cartoons for simple minded people because they arent mature and dark enough.
if you cannot tell by now, Marvel Studios often avoids putting emphasis on its supervillains in contrast to any superhero because these films are not told from the former's perspective. they don't have enough autonomy to act outside what the plot wants them to do. this fact is perfectly fine within a given context.
therefore the only major difference between a MCU rouge and any other rouge from mainline DC/Marvel is that a none MCU one stands out much more than the hero. though the ASM movies are rather closer to a MCU product, while the MCU would never spam a recurring rouge as much as Magento, and most importantly never add someone chewing the scenery so over the top like Zod without acknowledging how ridiculous it is.
people need to stop putting unrealistic exceptions in place. accept things for the way they are not the way you want them to be

...What's wrong with Saturday morning cartoons?
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.I was using the Mandarin as a marketing example, folks. Being real tongue in cheek.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Projectyes Batman movies made Batman an utter badass but in terms of characterization personality and development I cared for none of that as his rouges stole the show. was it effective? both Jokers check and Nolan's Bane check (disocuting he was Talia's bitch). meanwhile Scarecrow bored me because he was ineffective without his plot mcugfin, Ras although he said some serious speeches at the end he didnt leave a lasting impact on Bruce's life or the society of Gotham plus he had crappy cartography and physical feats, Ridler, Mr Freeze, Posion Ivy, and Peguine were all so hammy they belong in Batman and Robin.
really Joker stands at the frofront of BM most enteriting rogue in live action thus far without being short handed like Bane did.

Winter Soldier and Falcon runs scene
I brought this up in the last page, but it sort of got buried.
Matt Smith in the MCU.
How can it work?
I look at his picture on his creator page and my mind immediately says Tinkerer.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Well his fellow former Doctor Who actors were both cast as villains.
So clearly, Matt Smith should be cast as Reptyl the Non-Human
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

Yeah, that's pretty standard non-committal PR speak. Clearly they don't want to divulge just what Spider Man is going to do in Civil War.
I do love the idea of a panicky PR guy waving his arms frantically.
