Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

...Well, are those spoilers necessarily? We could assume the vibranium.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI think we had 3 or 4 just on the 4 episode TV thing I was an extra in, so god only knows how many you'd have on an actual film.
Okay, there is a major difference between a television show and a movie. A television show has multiple episodes. Each episode has a director, usually a different director. Take a look at this list of Agents of SHIELD episodes
and see all the directors on each individual episode. But each episode usually only has one director, much like a movie.
So: multiple directors per season, but one director per episode. Kind of like the MCU. Each film has one director — just one — and that's it.

Why should Vision in a tuxedo be narm? I'm picturing it now and I imagine he looks quite dapper.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I mean, the D23 footage doesn't sound like a trailer, and I doubt it'll be released until very close to the film's opening as a result. Preview clips usually work like that.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. This marks the end of the original Avengers on Earth before they go off into space. After Infinity War, generation X has to take over and some aren't even "superheros".
Age of Ultron established what each Avenger previously fought for, in other words their reason to live, and now Civil War challenges that reason. For example Natasha only wanted a relationship with the peaceful Bruce Banner because he reminded her there is a life outside the violent, deceptive instincts she had indoctrinated so early in life. All they had to do was move away together, but sadly Bruce prevented the opportunity from happening. Where does she now stand? With the Avengers because atoning for her past through superheroism is the only thing she has left. When the Avengers mess that up big time AGAIN how will she respond to her own actions, how will the government respond, how will the Avengers respond, and how will she respond to both of them?
This movie is all about responses. The effect to not only Age of Ultron's cause, but a minor, yet big, incident Steve Rogers commits. They sought out legacies; some of them realized those legacies were just false dreams, so where do they go from there? I believe Civil War's purpose is to provide answers.
Meanwhile, Marvel fans it is time to read up on Marvel's dimensions. http://www.marvunapp.com/list/appdim.htm
.
I will now outline how magic works in Marvel: Everything mystical foremost comes from a star because for some undisclosed reason stars grant power.
The basic formula follows
Personal - Magic comes from you, being indomitable will.
Universal - Ambient magic in the environment.
Dimensional - Calling a deity or being to grant power.
An example:
Ant Man offered the the Quantum Realm. A sorcerer can tap into it through their mind alone. A sorcerer can then manipulate the nature of its state or energies existing there. Lastly a sorcerer can draw out the inhabitants and use them to he or shes advantage.

Vision does wear clothes in the comics from time to time. And he looks quite snazzy
◊.
An interview with Evans and Mackie
. They say it's NOT an Avengers movie, as this isn't going to have a bunch of storylines for each hero like AOU tried to do, and it's more focused on Cap.

Everyone else is in it because you can't have a war without some folks.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI don't know where the idea that Widow is without purpose without Banner is coming from, she explicitly chose superheroing over Banner in Ao U. She's not heroing because she can't be with Banner, she can't be with Banner because she refused to abandon heroing.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ Cyran![]()
There's a ton of hyperbole and misinterpretations flying around about Widow's character after AOU. Not a small part of it is from Whedon haters looking for any excuse to bash him, up to believing that if he had his way he would make Natasha kill Hawkeye's children in Civil War.
Okay let me clarify.
First off, yes the movie is obviously a Captain America film (it's titled Captain America: Civil War), so Steve Rogers is our main point of view.
Secondly, the Avengers are an extension of him right now because having this companionship to fight with makes him happier than being alone. They are known as the external observation (or introspection depending on how much weight they carry) of Steve's characterization. Their relationship revolves around his bubble, projecting insight on to him. We receive information about Steve because of his interactions with them and their thoughts of him. The audience can start to gain an understanding of what others notice in the protagonist. It is also a great chance to see a difference in what the protagonist wants (in Steve's case to continue fighting the perpetual war on other wordy terrors like https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/AvengersAgeOfUltron
says) and what the character is really like through this relationship. What others focus on him and what others ignore about him offer new information related to him.
Thirdly, Steve Rogers relies on the Avengers to help him lead humanity to a better future. Tony Stark wanted to take that away unintentionally through an AI program. Steve as a leader needs people to lead and if the Avengers currently have a negative PR status then he is going to struggle. His wants to help people, but he needs to help people because it is the only thing he ever trained to do. Want vs need. They conflict.
Still that does not mean every other character becomes irrelevant, not having time to establish themselves any further. Natasha's mean they become any conversations with Steve during Winter Soldier also offered us a new way to look at her. The story could have made her irrelevant on her own terms, but instead chose something more weighty. She was put into the external introspection layer. Meanwhile, Avengers and Iron Man 2 put her in the external observation layer. I don't really care which one she fits into for Civil War though choosing to fight against her best friend obviously is in direct response to her current situation. S.H.I.E.l.D. gave Natasha a new life, while Clint taught her the importance of redemption. S.H.I.E.l.D. no longer exist, so her next option was the Avengers. She stuck with them to continue superheroism because it was the best way to atone for her sins by doing some good. The Avengers treated her anything than the assassin Russia wanted her to be and appeared better than the exploitation S.H.I.E.l.D. used. Meanwhile, Bruce Banner reminded her there is a life outside of violence. A life that seemed rare in her state of mind. By not sticking with her he shattered the chance for that want becoming a reality and once reality hits it is officially a need. Now she's still sticking with the Avengers though for how long after the government thinks they aren't so law abiding? This is the same character who told congress fuck you after they asked her to be held accountable. Now she sides with them? Well obviously Natasha is so sick of being let down she no longer sees the Avengers as her gateway for atonement. She finally gives in to the government's demands. Be held accountable on team Iron Man.
You do not need tons of screen for this. I just added up the math based on the logical patterns of Natasha's actions. Her story is no longer an excuse to develop another character. The story stands on its own. I was looking at the larger story.
She started off bad. Then years later she wants atonement for the bad part and a life outside violence, which she knows she can't have. She needs to be an Avenger so she can escape from being sent to prison. Also no one thus far proved to be a more suitable candidate for her Avenger position. Although she said "arrest me" it was merely a threat she knew Capital Hill didn't have the balls to respond to at the moment.
Que Civil War. The Avengers fight Crossbones, who ends up exploding a near by complex. The govemrent wants the Avengers held accountable, especially after they almost destroyed Earth (Tony's association with Ultron extends to all of them). Natasha decides to join the registration act because her want conflicts with her need. By not joining Captain America she is saying "I am better off Pro Registration". The government deploying her>Avengers.
It's what I think. It makes the most sense to me, so although the movie is Captain America centeric everyone fighting everyone is not a big out of character moment. What side they chose is solely based on what we already know about them. I just picked Natasha as a mere example.
Tony Stark: You don't get it, every-time I go out there my life is put at stake, my family becomes a risk, and my reputation diminishes! Give yourself in dammit so I can rest.
Steve Rogers: No, mr I can save the world all buy my self. The Avengers are necessary. We are necessary and I will not stop until everyone realizes this! Without Avengers humanity loses. Without humanity I lose. Why can't you figure that out yet?
Tony Stark: Every-time I try the Avengers thing it only works when we have Nick Fury to back us up. He isn't here anymore. The government is. Turn yourself in already.
Steve Rogers: (Throws shield).
Tony Stark: (doges and sighs). Freaking stubborn self righteousness idiot. The Avengers are over. People do not like you guys anymore. Don't you get it?
This is the conflict our Avengers have. It is over each other. It is over accountability for each other's actions.
As for Steve Roger's story... well I will leave that for another time.
Yes Civil War marks the end to Avengers before they go off into space against Thanos. Kevin Feige already reported Infinity War Part II will conclude all events from 2,008. Phase 4 is no longer centered on the original Avengers, but those who replace them. The only possibility for a Captain America 4 would be Red Skull, the only possibility for a Iron Man 4 would be Mandarin, and the only possibility for Hulk 2 would be Abomination, Leader, and Thunderbolt.

x4 For all we know, Ant-Man could shrink everyone down and the battle happens in his bathtub or Cassie's bedroom or something. With a tiny little Thanos and his tiny little army of aliens trying to get back to full size so they can destroy the world.

Anyway the Redwing drone confirms the Joblo report which also talked about Black Panther, his vibranium suit, and his Stark-esque jet doesn't it?
