Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

You're right, it would be stupider.
It's hard if not impossible to write a brilliant villainous mastermind who employs terrorism as his M.O. Terrorism is a sledgehammer used to chip away at an enemy that cannot simply be conquered in the hopes that they'll give up and let you win.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
Now hold on there. If we keep in mind the fact that 616 Mandy is a Social Darwinist and Well-Intentioned Extremist, using terrorist groups to sow conflict may make sense in regards to his possible motive. He could be the polar opposite of HYDRA (which he hates along with SHIELD and other peace-promoting organizations) in that he believes that humanity shouldn't be kept under a restrictive blanket of security but rather continuously tested in "trials by fire" in order to evolve and become better. And in his mind, seeing the birth of all these superbeings and geniuses realizing their talents (eg. Stark's near-death and imprisonment "pushing" him to become Iron Man) only proves him right.

Sowing conflict that is limited to a part of the world that's already in constant conflict. Job well done?
The greatest international influence the Ten Rings have ever been shown to have is when Killian made them a fake threat to the stability of the United States.

And their master plan for procuring said weapons consisted entirely of buying them from a crooked arms dealer.
Face it, the Ten Rings are the Boba Fett of this franchise. The fandom has built them up to be this terrifying and all-powerful force of global annihilation when, really, they're just some dipshit who got smacked into the Sarlacc Pit by a blind man flailing wildly.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.No, that's what Killian wants you to think, which is why he covered up a much better plan by disguising it as pointless terrorism. That's the most the Ten Rings can be: a mask for better villains to disguise their activities under.

I remember his first Avengers appearance with... fondness?
Where he had Swordsman plant a bomb in Avengers mansion for when Iron Man rejoined the team, got bored, and then ordered Swordsman to set off the bomb that same day.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWait, is there a place to watch it?
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.A video package follows, narrated by director Scott Derrickson , showing concept art for Doctor Strange. Derrickson hits upon Strange being the "top neuro surgeon in the world," before a car accident "mangles" his hands. Just as in comic books, this leads Strange "on a quest looking for healing — looking to recover — and he meets the Ancient One."
The concept art shows Strange casting spells, pulling on giant chains, and looks like being transported to other dimensions. The concept art shows Strange in his classic red cape, and also briefly shows him fighting what looks to be Baron Mordo.

When they talk about Civil War at D23, Tom Holland will make an unexpected appearance in the new Spider-Man costume.
Calling it now.
Speaking of Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield makes peace with how he's not the webhead anymore.
