Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Uh, no, no they're not the same angle. It's the same area, but it's clearly not the same angle and you can't even see the cars in the Spider-Man shot.

I mean, the shot is fake, but it wasn't photoshopped. It was actually from a student film.

[up]That article you linked to says nothing about it being from a student film. Where are you getting that from?

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

Also, I still say it's the same angle. It's just zoomed in and blurred a bit. The odds of these students filming a scene at an angle that just so happens to perfectly match a random New York stock photo seems way too low for this to be a student film.

Heck, there are three yellow taxis in a triangle formation in front of the exact same building in both pictures.

Hmm, someone told me that it was found to be from a student film. Not sure where they got the information from.

Also, the shots look similar, but the angle of the building is clearly different.

Which building? I mean, the one "Spider-Man" is crawling on is probably photoshopped in or something, but all the buildings behind him line up perfectly with the other photo.

The building that he's climbing doesn't match the building in the shot. But okay.

Also, I learned that apparently the film was María y el Araña, a Spanish independent film. But the image they were referring to was actually an image of a boy in a Spider-Man costume on the subway and not that image of him climbing the building.

Ehh... certain minor villains should stick around so they can make appearances in other films. I wholly support Taskmaster showing up in a few movies as a minor antagonist, or even Batroc getting into trouble again.

Batroc? What he going to do, kick people and run away?

Heck, if anything, that just further proves the picture is fake. How could all the buildings match the angle from the other picture except for one? Did that one building just randomly tilt like the friggin' Leaning Tower of Pisa? It's photoshopped.

Also, I learned that apparently the film was María y el Araña, a Spanish independent film. But the image they were referring to was actually an image of a boy in a Spider-Man costume on the subway and not that image of him climbing the building.

Well, I don't blame you for getting all the fake leaked Spider-Man Civil War costumes mixed up. There's, like, a million of 'em floating around.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

Ronda Rousey wants to play Captain Marvel.

I know people always put too much into these offhand remarks, but man. Sign me the fuck up.

Oh wow, yeah, that'd be fucking awesome. Captain Marvel would kick everyone's ass, man.

Kind of worried if she can act though, since I think she's only been a badass bodyguard in the last Fast and Furious movie.

I have to admit I know nothing at all about Captain Marvel. What should we expect from a movie about her?

I'm guessing the origin would be similar to Green Lantern with Mar-Vell taking Abin Sur's place.

Oh, please, no! An Athlete trying to become an actress should start with supporting roles, not taking the lead in one the most important movies which will come out in the near future. We need an actress who can actually carry a movie.

Also I hate this new trend of actors trying to get roles by using the social media.

Ronda Rousey wants to play Captain Marvel.

No. No way. From what I've seen of her acting, dear god no.

Here's a good suggestion I saw: Kate McKinnon. She's primarily done comedy roles, but her look in the new Ghostbusters seems very Carol Danvers-y.

Kate Mc Kinnon would be pretty good. She's fairly buff already, and looks the part.

Techinically speaking she has taken supporting roles in Fast and the Furious 7 and Expendables 3. This would be her "next step".

Going by her appearance in Wrestlemania 31 (since cutting promos in wrestling is still considered acting as its a means to set up a character) I say no to Rhonda as Captain Marvel. She is a badass fighter, no denying, and certainly looks the part but in terms of acting she is not good at it.

Give it to (obviously) Emily Blunt. She definitely fits the role. She was eyed by Marvel for Black Widow, might as well utilize her for this character.

[up][up][up]Nope. The next step would be secondary lead in a smaller production. Never mind that two roles are hardly a lot of experience.

[up]Why? Because she is a cool athlete? That doesn't make her a good actress or suitable for that role.

[up]Mine too...the only downside is that she is technically a little bit small for the role. But she would certainly sell it AND has the fighting abilities to make it look good.
