Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The FF aren't. But all the properties connected to them are. Which is half of Marvel's space universe, which I bet they really want to explore with Got G.
They do have enough material to keep going for a while without the associated FF rights
Forever liveblogging the AvengersFor what it's worth, I saw Fantastic Four today, and it was alright. The story kinda falls apart in places, and there's a few cases of unfortunately hamfisted dialogue, but the performances are all pretty solid and the effects are great.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I think Sony's contract with Marvel is kinda complicated because it's a bit older than we think. Someone to do with MGM and stuff?
And I think a co-production with Fox with the properties is the best bet for everyone. Fox can not make money from the franchise and X-Men will need to be rebooted anyway after Apocalypse. They can work with the X-franchise but that franchise doesn't have a lot of big mascot characters other than Wolverine and Deadpool. I'm still iffy on how Gambit is going to go, I'm not sure if Channing Tatum is a box office draw or if he just picks projects right.
Seems pretty ridiculous to reboot the X-Men so soon after DoFP when that movie was basically a reboot anyways.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.I wanted Fantastic Four to be So Okay, It's Average because I like the actors in it, but having seen some bootlegs of it, yes, it really is terrible. Not even good in a Bile Fascination way. It's just a slogging waste of time. Reminds me that as much as I like to hate on Thor 2, it's not that bad by comic book movie standards. In the pre-MCU days being a derivative but competent Cliché Storm would've been good enough. Also godddamn that Doom. Looks like literal garbage.
On a side note the old 1994 Fantastic Four movie is worth checking out. Even if it's not great it's at least worth it for the laughs, and some of the actors turn in genuinely good performances. That one probably has Doom's best adaptation.

I liked the movie's Doom design. I also didn't think the movie was a slog—I actually think it could've benefited from another half an hour.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. That's the weird part. It clearly could have used some more time to flesh out its story, but even at 100 minutes, it still doesn't feel like it really goes anywhere.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectYeah, it feels like there is a chunk missing but also as if there was plenty of time for it, the movie just spend it meandering around.
Marvel teaming up with Fox in a deal similar to the one they have with Sony makes zero sense. They had nothing to loose in the Sony deal, but a team-up with Fox would mean actively helping Fox to keep the licence when there is a good chance that the rights revert back to Marvel for good.
Isn't there this big Disney event in Anaheim, soon? I wouldn't be surprised if a few announcements are made during it.
If it were in a month I would bet on an announcement that Fox and Marvel made a deal which involves Marvel's getting the F4 back in exchange for allowing the TV show. But on such short notice, I suspect that we will have to wait for this one.
But I am ready to bet that they will show something from Civil War. Perhaps a first very short teaser.
The first concept art at least, since we got impressions of Doctor Strange from that Africa event.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectWe know not a lot about it all things considered.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectEspecially since their latest outing was such a complete disaster.
I remember a few years back, someone at Marvel Studios was talking about the fans hoping for Spider-Man, X-Men, and FF to fail so that the rights can revert and Marvel Studios could start making their movies. Paraphrased, "Why do you think we would make a bunch of movies about properties that are proven failures?"
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Fantastic Four made $26 million on its opening weekend. That's phenomenally bad, and is not an encouraging reason for either Fox or Marvel Studios to make another movie.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
Most people just want Marvel to have the rights so they can use the characters, though. Many people will be happy if skrulls appear in the next Guardians of the Galaxy, even if a new FF movie is never made. Personally, I would find really cool if Future Foundations had a role in the Spider-Man movies.
