Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Asgard has both magic and science so advanced that its basically magic.
How come Pym has never gone on a field trip there? He'd love it and or get in a fist fight with Odin.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHeimdall is Dr. Doom?
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to Dr. Strange since he's one of my favorite heroes with my all-time favorite villain (the DREAD DORMAMMU), but I'm not too excited for Cumberbatch in the role and hearing that the scriptwriters are known for flops is a bit worrisome.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! So, I hear the new Fantastic Four movie completely flopped.
Think Fox is ready to make a deal with Marvel now?
One Strip! One Strip!
It's not ten years. It's six or seven or so.
Would be a stupid move. Now they at least get money for it. In a few years they either have to let it go for free or they have to throw good money after bad. I don't think that the audience will get excited about a F4 movie anytime soon. It was not even excited this time around, can you imagine how bad the buzz will be the next time?

It probably wouldn't be so bad if it was Marvel Studios doing the next one.
By the way, they better give it back at this point. IIRC virtually no one wanted to see this movie.
EDIT:
they have to throw good money after bad.
I'm not sure if I get this part...

Same here. I wasn't terribly excited for it, but I was hopefully optimistic. I even liked the idea of changing their origins from "space" to "Negative Zone", something a lot of fans were vocally against. I thought that even if it wasn't amazing, it would still be entertaining enough.
But, yeah, the reviews convinced me I shouldn't watch it.

The contract is designed in a way that Fox either have to produce a movie every few years or the rights revert back to Marvel. So in a few years they will be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either giving up the rights or springing the money for another ill-fated production. Which is why they are better off to sell the rights back now. Not that Marvel will pay as much as they would have a few years ago.

Marvel would never go for that arrangement. They want complete control. Spider-man was a different matter because for one, Spider-man is the Mascot of Marvel and not the member of a Comic book series which they already cancelled due to low sales, and two, Sony was still making money with Spider-man and was therefore set on making more movies, no matter what. Movies which could have undermined Spider-man the same way the F4 have been destroyed in mainstream perception. This way Marvel has some control.
Plus, Marvel can wait. They have a full schedule for the next years either way. It would just be easier and saver if they get the rights back now.

Heimdall's eyesight doesn't work through the Bifrost - even when it was broken, he could still see. He just has a limited form of omniscience - basically, he can see almost anywhere.
