Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Sometimes they do. But very often the fans see what they want to see. Like thinking that Emma Watson will play MJ just because she happened to have red hair when she was cast, or just recently the actress who was rumoured to be a female Robin but apparently play Barbara Gordon instead. In this case someone involved in the project just has to mention that he thinks that Kraven is an interesting villain and the fans will take that as confirmation. Until I see an official casting call or an official announcement, I don't buy into it.

I still kinda want to see Elle Fanning as Gwen Stacy.
Does that say anything about me?

Kraven's pretty cool, actually. Since it's in the MCU, it'd be interesting to have a low level Hero Killer as a villain.
Playing Aurora in Maleficent is a hard role to judge her on, because all the role required is to smile pretty. The titular Sleeping Beauty is more of an object than a character.

Some of the male actor pages can still get a little fawning, despite the mass editing to get rid of that kind of stuff. Though it's less of the "dude s/he's so hawt and fits these kinds of fetishes" and more "s/he's soooo charming and cute and look at those gorgeous eyes!" so maybe it's not so alarming.

I'm scared to look at what the rabid fanpeople (mainly fangirls) have done to the pages of Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Hiddleston's is a little gushy but nothing too bad. At least it does make mention of the Fan Dumb.

That reminded me of this amusing quote from Keira Knightley regarding that fandom:
"It's terrifying," she admitted. "I mean, they're lovely. I feel terrified saying they're terrifying cause they might come after me. So… yes, it's amazing! They're very artistic! They paint pictures of him. You go to premieres and there's these amazing paintings of Ben looking Ben-like… [They're] a very hysterical, artistic type."
Fanning was really great in Super 8, if any of you haven't seen it, especially in this scene
.
