Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

we never truly had a 14-17 year old with superpowers on the sliver screen who reflects what you see in the highschool setting/mindset of a teenier.
Do you mean "in the MCU" or "at all"? Because we had Chronicle, which was about three teenagers with superpowers, and was very good (and got a lot more into the idea of what teenagers who suddenly got superpowers would really be like than any of the comic book movies have).
there are contractual reasons why we're getting another spidery movie so soon
Forever liveblogging the Avengersi never saw chronicles but i do know its not a superhero story, its found footage, and it doesnt really explore what being a teenger means to a specific type of archtype (geek) like a John Hughes film or the Gold Bergs show. think Harry Potter style if you know what i mean. that is what Marvel is doing differently. really establishing a young peter parker in this superhero world much like ellie (last of us) was in a zombie apocalypse.
"John Francis Daley: (It’s a) John Hughes take [with] Peter in high school. I think we’re going to spend a lot more time on them in high school and deal with him being a real kid. Jonathan M. Goldstein: They cast a real kid, so we’re going to write a real kid."
problem with JH is he never knew how to write urban minorities over blown scenes with excessive melodrama and always made adults useless

giving a few more years before the next spider-man movie is not the same as just outright giving up on him. it's just that it hasn't been that long since TAS, and now they're basically rebooting him AGAIN. that's one case where i think calling "superhero movie fatigue" is at least somewhat justified.
and yeah i know there's contractual stuff behind the marvel spidey movie, but it really makes no difference to the consumer.
Gifted is just synonymous for superhuman since the Whedons aren't using the proper term Mutate (are they aware of Marvel's lingo?).
"Mutate" both sounds similar to "mutant" and incredibly dumb. "These people have been mutated! They are...mutates!".
"Gifted" (used AOS) and "enhanced" (used on AOU/AOS), on the other hand, are both actual adjectives used to describe people and also sound waaaay better.
I don't know that found footage is mutually exclusive with superhero. The MCU shows that superheroes fit into a lot of genres.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI liked Garfield Peter so I dunnae, its going to be difficult to care about Peter 3.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersCarol was the inspiration for Kamala in-universe but I wouldn't say her characterization revolves around her.
She takes just as much if not more inspiration from her religion.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersJust got back from seeing Ant-Man. It was really good, I thought it was stupid at first but after I heard about it getting talked about positively on a podcast I gave it a chance and went to see it. It was hilarious, probably even more so than Guardians of the Galaxy. My only problem is I MISSED THE SECOND CREDITS STINGER, ARGH

as for Spiderman, this one will be very different because it takes place during his teenage years only. imagine Fitz from Agents of SHIELD 11 years younger but obviously different personality hobbies wants need relationships and history. we never truly had a 14-17 year old with superpowers on the sliver screen who reflects what you see in the highschool setting/mindset of a teenier. do not forget this would be the first time EVER spiderman interacts with not only a greater universe but the rest of Marvel... and spiderman has lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of alias/rouges who can crossover into other territory. o do not forget theres no origin story
if it succeeds then films like Shazam will take notes
