Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up] I like it, but Hope needs a better helmet because that one is pretty ugly. She should get a helmet similar to Yellowjacket's.

I don't know, I like this helmet. On the other hand I hope they'll give her something for her arms because having her with bare arms wouldn't make much sense.

Two things. One, why the hell doesn't it have arms? Two, how are the wings attached?

How come her arms are left bare? Edit: Wow, [nja]'d twice.

And yeah that helmet is rather iffy even if it is a homage. Looks like an Alfalfa gimp mask. Body looks pretty cool though even if it's a little lacking in color compared to Yellowjacket's suit.

The suit isn't finished yet, that's why there are no arms.

You could say [puts on sunglasses] that it's armless.

Well, the suit is unfinished. Maybe they never got to the arms. Maybe Janet was like "I want spinning rims on my elbows" and Hank was like "....let's see how the rest of the suit goes first."

Also boob socks.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

I hope that's changed when she actually starts wearing it. It's better than a cleavage window but it's still a silly design choice.

Does this really qualify as boob socks? I mean it looks more like it's made to be form-fitting and it's not as ridiculous as what you often see in comics.

I do like that it's a different color than the Antman costume though.

My sister did gymnastics, so I know from form-fitting.

Nobody but comic book artists designs clothes like that. It's boob socks.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

It barely counts as boob socks if at all.

Clearly the Pym Particles have unexpected side effects on gals. It's totally a glitch. They'll fix it, probably.

I entirely wouldn't mind if the suit design changes in the process of being finished.

Still it was a thrill seeing the new Wasp suit in the movie even if at the very last minute

Edit: Wait, are those cylinders supposed to be pym particles? They are blue. Do people just color code pym particles with food coloring? Please tell me the answer is yes.

Maybe the Pym Particles for each suit have different chemical makeups.

I'm glad Wasp is in the MCU, but I wish Hope was a bit bubblier and perkier like the Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon Wasp.

Actually, what I really want is for Janet to be saved from the Quantum Realm and for her to have the bubbly, perky personality.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

[up]x6: I wouldn't say comic book artists are the only ones. Fantasy armor too. Unless the metal armor disqualifies the "sock" part.

nerd media artists in general do that.

[up][up]I'd say it only qualifies as a boobsock when it's something malleable.

Solid metal armor falls under Boob-plate, instead.

That's when a superheroine's costume seems to have separate pouches for their breasts.

Look at 90s Rogue for an example.

It is kind of silly, but Awesome, but Impractical is pretty much the Wasp's entire MO. She comes up with ridiculously fashionable and flamboyant costumes regardless of how impractical/dangerous they are in combat situations.

She's like the anti Edna Mode.

Sleeves Are for Wimps. Just because Hank and Scott are wussies who need covered arms doesn't mean a BAMF like Hope is. cool

@Spash: To be fair, Wasp only started with a bubbly, perky personality, at least in the comics, and got somewhat more serious after she started being one of the teams' leaders. Since Jan!Wasp in the movies already has some experience behind her, she might not be so perky, for better or worse. (Somewhat perky, maybe, but not that perky.)
