Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

With Tobias and Very Melon on this. The whole point of the film adaptations is to bring the character to a more mainstream audience, so judging the character based on how those adaptations handle him is fine. The problem there is not the person being misinformed, but on the adaptation failing in properly showcasing the character. That said, don't do something like judging the comics based on the movies. That's just silly.
Regarding Gwen Stacy, I can see her being brought in but her story being drastically changed for one simple reason: Spider Gwen.

I hope Marvel retries the Sinister Six idea. Even taking into account that Ant-Man is already a heist movie, I always thought the Sinister Six as an outright villainous version of something like Oceans Eleven would be awesome.
Sony was apparently planning on doing Clone Saga IIRC which would end with a clone of Gwen with Peter's powers becoming a hero like Ultimate!Jessica Drew(they apparently had the idea before Spider-Gwen was even an idea). Might've even involved alternate dimensions IIRC.

If they do a Sinister Six movie, it still needs to have Spider-Man as main protagonist, not making the Six all Villain Protagonists. Honestly, most of the Sinister Six are just two-dimensional bad guys, and taking the time to properly develop all six of them would just bog down the movie. It's more important that characters like Peter, Aunt May, and Jameson get character development than characters like Rhino, Vulture, and Mysterio.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Sinister Six could be used as a counterpart of the Suicide Squad movie, or to despict them fighting other criminals to try and impose their power in New York's crime community. But I do agree with spashthedragon: unless they retool the character to make them interesting, the Sinister Six are better off as villains in a Spider-Man movie.
I would definitely love if they included Gwen as Spider-Gwen by alternating her so she becomes Spider-Girl in the MCU continuity. Why not? They did make Hope (who was the villainous Red Queen from an alternate future in the comic) the current incarnation of Wasp.

Oceans Eleven did a decent job setting up eleven characters. Even given that Marvel hasn't been so great with villains, I think they can do six.
Also, the main reason I'm against it being a straightforward "Spidey fights six villain at once!" is that it's basically a repeat of what Marvel should be doing with the Avengers and the Masters of Evil, and a lot less interesting as a result.
Not to mention the "set up multiple characters" might be worse, because now they would have to set up six different villains with six unique motivations from Spider-Man's perspective (which would involve establishing a personal connection with Spider-Man individually), whereas from their point of view they only have to be established in relation to each other, and then can be connected with Spidey as a group.

I really didn't care for the Sinister Six movie having all of them be villain protagonists. I would want to see Spider-Man be the hero of the story fighting all 6 of his past foes instead of being a member of the six on a mission with them.
The idea of making a movie with the Sinister Six as villain protagonists was obviously a desperate move brought on by Sony's desire to have a full-on Cinematic Universe to compete with Marvel's, without actually having any properties other than Spider-Man to fill it. Now that they've wisely given up on that, I doubt it's ever going to happen. If the Sinister Six ever appear, it's going to be as the antagonists of a Spider-Man movie, not as the headliners of their own spin-off.

Clearly, the only thing that makes sense is to do a Spider-Verse tie-in movie.
Get Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to team up with Josh Keaton, whoever's doing the Ultimate cartoon Spidey, and the new MCU Spider-Man. Have them fight one of the Inheritors, the villains from Spider-Verse. Throw in those two Spideys that were commenting on Maguire and Garfield's presence in the comic.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.No idea...the current animated from Marvel are all so awful that I don't pay attention to them (even though I have some hope that the Got G one will be better).
The thrity-second teaser wasn't too promising. It'll probably be just as obnoxious as the other shows, with just as many painfully heavy-handed shout outs to its movie as Avengers Assemble has.
Isn't the current animated series in a Sinister Six arc at the moment?
It's next season will be titled "Ultimate Spider-Man vs the Sinister Six". Not sure why because they already introduced the Sinister Six back in season 2 (where they were each introduced in separate episodes one after the others before appearing together and being defeated in the same episode in a rather anticlimatic way), Rhino made a Heel–Face Turn since then and they have already shown up again several times, so yeah, it's not like this will be a big change. It can't even be to catch in the upcoming Sinister Six movie, since that movie was a Sony project and got cancelled.

Oh, okay, then. Never mind.

At least giving the show a subtitle helps prevent confusion with the Ultimate Spider-Man comics...
Marvel Animation is part of Marvel TV, so Jeph Loeb is still nominally in charge of it. However, I do think he's focused more on the Netflix and AOS/AC side of it now, while Steve Wacker
is in charge of the animation (not sure of his ultimate position, however).
The problem with Garfield as the actor for Spider-Man is that he makes it really hard to film. He's never in the studio on Mondays, and he eats all the lasagna in the break room. And when they try to film the scene with the spider that bites him? He just kept squishing it with a newspaper.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
